A colossal universe

Released in 2009, the first chapters of Attack on Titan originated in Bessatsu Shōnen Jump, publisher Kodansha’s preprint magazine. Following the monstrous success of manga in Japan, Éditions Pika decided to import the phenomenon to our country., and it’s no surprise that Attack on Titan is a real hit with us. As early as 2013, an animated adaptation produced by Wit Studio is broadcast simultaneously in Japan and France. Day one fans then find Eren, Mikasa and Armin in the dark and gloomy world of Shingeki No Kyojin.

The last inhabitants of the planet live locked up in the giant fortress city of the island of Paradise. Surrounded by the gigantic walls of Rose, Maria and Sina, the Men feel protected from the danger that the outside represents. Indeed, the world is invaded by titans, gigantic humanoid beings who devour humans. Just as the people of Shiganshina District think they are safe, a colossal titan over 60 meters tall destroys part of Wall Maria, letting the monsters enter the city. Eren, a young boy, then sees his own mother being devoured before his innocent eyes. Growing up, Eren has only one desire: to become a soldier of the exploration battalion in order to destroy all the Titans.

Shingeki no Kyojin video games

Of course, faced with this colossal success, it was obvious that developers were trying to give us the Attack on Titan experience on our favorite medium. It was in 2016 that Koei Tecmo and Omega Force offered us a first video game entitled Attack on Titan – Wings of Freedom. The title offers us to revisit the entire first season of the anime by making us embody the different characters of the series. Despite a very faithful adaptation to the manga and a gameplay with small onions, this first game can quickly become repetitive after ten hours of slicing titans. The fights are nervous and intense and let the player experiment with different techniques to defeat the giants. On top of that, the gear customization brings a real sense of belonging to the manga universe.

If you want to extend the fun, the developers offered us a sequel in March 2018. attack on titan 2 takes up what made the strength of the first part to make us live the events of seasons 1 and 2, and the 3rd in the DLC Final Battle. Unlike the first game which made us live the adventure through the eyes of anime characters, AOT 2 offers us the opportunity to create our own hero. We are then completely integrated into the work of Hajime Isayama, and experience the major events of the Attack on Titan alongside the exploration battalion. It’s up to us to master the three-dimensional equipment and slice titans in the rules of the art. An exhilarating experience, but which can quickly become repetitive like the previous game.

As a reminder, seasons 1 to 3 of Attack on Titan will disappear from the Amazon Prime Video catalog on May 2, 2022.
