Eren Jaeger, protagonist of the Mappa studio series, was selected in the category of best antagonist.
Crunchyroll, the company of streaming of Japanese animation delivered the list of nominees for the Anime Awards 2022.
In its platform, the list of the productions selected by a body of more than 60 judges from around the world appears. They are distributed in 20 different categories and users will be able to vote at least once a day, between January 18 and 25.
The list of nominations is headed by two productions from MAPPA studios: Jujutsu Kaisen (11 and Shingeki no Kyojin (10). They also highlight Odd Taxi (11 and Wonder Egg Priority (10), from PICS-OLM and CloverWorks studies, respectively.
Controversy over Eren Jaeger
In the list of nominees for the Anime Awards 2022, there is a selection that has caused a stir. This is a character from Shingeki no Kyojin, Eren Jaeger, whose name appears in two categories: Best Leading Role and Best Antagonist.
The entire series based on Hajime Isayama’s manga revolves around his revenge story, since he is orphaned by an attack by the titans in the Shiganshina district, until he discovers his powers.
However, in the last season, the character is more reckless and willing to do anything. For this reason, for manga experts and connoisseurs, the boundary between hero and villain has been fading.
Other notable nominees
Among the nominees also stand out the series 86: Eighty-Six (4), Tokyo Revengers (4), Megalobox 2: Nomad (3), Fruits Basket The Final Season (3) and Beastars (3).
As for feature films, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Arc shines with three nominations. In the Best Film category, it must compete against Hideaki Anno’s latest film, Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time. It will also deal with BELLE, produced by Chizu studios and directed by Mamoru Hosoda.
