The director of Attack on Titan has explained series creator Hajime Isayama’s closer involvement in the second part of the fourth and final season! The anime is heading towards its grand finale with every new episode, which means there are huge developments every time as the series continues to put in place its final endgame plans. It’s a very different case for the second half of the season compared to the first outing last year, and the team behind the anime took a very different approach to bringing it to life this time around. This even includes the manga’s original creator, Hajime Isayama.
As director Yuichiro Hayashi explains the changes for Attack on Titan: Final Season Part 2 in a special production talk posted by Studio MAPPA, the first part of the final season was in production while Isayama was also working on the manga finale. But with the manga fully finished, Isayama has a lot more time to review each of the production items for part 2 and give a lot more feedback than before, since he’s less busy overall. But it’s still not a contentious relationship, thankfully.
“He checks the storyboards every time and the comments are…” Hayashi began, “At the time of Part 1 he was working on the finale so it seemed like he was really busy. But now that’s it So the comments from him was about one A4 sheet, but now it’s about two A4 sheets. And he is now checking things more closely. There are a lot of suggestions for improvement like, ‘I want you to fix this part’, but also a lot of ‘Oh, that’s great’, which makes me very happy.”
Hayashi also revealed that there were specific requests Isayama made about what to include in some of the episodes, like secret cameos that took off with fans, and many more things to come in the episodes. new episodes. As the series moves closer to completing the manga’s final moments, it’s no wonder the creator is looking at things more closely than before.
