Attack on Titan: Meet the “new dance” that went viral on TikTok

This past November 6, the last season of the famous anime series “Shingeki No Kyojin” also known as Attack on Titan, on the streaming platform Crunchyroll, having a great reception from the fans, who were already looking forward to this latest installment that would solve many of the riddles and doubts presented in previous seasons.

Attack on Titan has managed to become one of the most important anime of the moment, becoming more relevant in recent weeks, since it has managed to transcend from the small screen to social networks with a choreography that is trending within the short video app, TikTok.

This “new dance” has its origins in a YouTube video dating from 2014, in which Kayla Mallari, a 34-year-old dancer from Southern California, appears dressed in a manga cosplay performing a hip-hop routine. from the popular anime created by Hajime Isayama to the rhythm of «Talk Dirty to Me» by Jason Derulo.

Now this video has gone viral within TikTok quickly converting to Kayla Mallari, quite a celebrity within the application, thanks to thousands of “duets” and collaborations that have replicated the video over a year. This shows the great power of the Attack on Titan fandom and community that is present on said platform.

What is Attack on Titan about?

Shingeki no Kyojin, also known in Spanish-speaking countries as Attack on Titan, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama, which takes place in a fictional world in which humanity is on the verge of extinction due to humanoid creatures called “titans” that appear from nowhere.

After several years of irremediable annihilation, the survivors change their strategy and take shelter in three huge walls that prevent access to the monsters.
