The attack of the Titans moved from Wit Studio to Studio MAPPA for its final season, with many originally wondering if the newcomers would be able to live up to the high standards set by their predecessors. Thankfully, fans have been fairly receptive to the animation of The Scout Regiment’s fourth season, though MAPPA has relied more heavily on CG visuals to portray the Titans themselves, with the producer of those final episodes, Yusuke Tannawa, explaining. in detail how the studio was looking to improve the computer-generated graphics for the second half of the final season.
In a recent interview, Tannawa explained how the CG visuals were improved for the final season, along with several other aspects that received slight changes when it came to bringing Paradis and Marley’s terrifying Titans to life:
“The models themselves have a few updates, but not much has changed, and the looks are almost the same. We just changed the way we present them. Especially under [Director Yuichiro Hayashi’s] direction of the first episode, we changed some things that we think could be expressed a little better in part 2 after doing part 1.”
Tannawa then extrapolated on how animators have been able to learn over time working on the same Attack on Titan characters, noting that experience often leads to good results when it comes to the world of animation. :
“It’s not a change, it’s a variation on what we did, but I think it’s an improvement… When a 3D animator continues to work on the same character for a long time, it becomes get used to it little by little and it gets easier to handle that… So I think the longer you work, the better you will become.”
