‘Attack on Titan’ has been one of the most popular anime of the moment for a decade, but it is undoubtedly one of the best Japanese anime series in history. But its level of production and the ambitious animation of Mappa, the busiest anime studio at the moment (also anime ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’, ‘Vinland Saga’ or ‘Chainsaw Man’, among others) is causing the seasons to break into parts and You are in more parts. In March a spectacular hour of anime called ‘Attack on Titan: The Last Season: Part 3: Part 1’ arrived and, since no one knows, it is best to review the order to see the exciting story of Eren Yeager, Mikasa, Armin and company the best possible.
In addition to the correct order to watch the series, we are also going to talk about the OVAs, the summaries of the series and even some extra curiosity with their ridiculous live-action adaptations or their Chibi versions.
‘Attack on Titan (Shingeki No Kyojin)’: Order of the seasons of the series, movies and OVAs
‘Attack on Titan’: season 1 (2013, 26 episodes)
The first and longest season of the series, by Wit Studio. It tells us the first steps of the protagonist, from his childhood to his first missions in the reconnaissance corps. Contains the first 33 chapters of the manga.
OVAs to expand season 1: ‘Ilse’s Diary’ (2013), ‘The Unexpected Visitor’ (2014), ‘Difficulty’ (2014), ‘No Regrets 1’ (2014) and ‘No Regrets 2’ (2015). Of all of them we recommend ‘Ilse’s Diary’, which gives us more information about the Titans, and ‘No Regrets’, the story of how Levi joined the Reconnaissance Squad.
Summary movies: ‘Attack on Titan, the movie. Part 1. The Scarlet Bow and Arrows’ (2014) summarizes the chapters from 1 to 13. ‘Attack on Titan, the movie. Part 1. The wings of freedom’ (2015) summarizes the chapters from 14 to 25.
‘Attack on Titan’: season 2 (2017, 12 episodes)
The protagonists continue to try to discover the truth of the titans in dangerous missions behind the walls, but new enemies and various betrayals appear and are revealed. It contains chapters 34-50 of the manga.
OVAs to expand season 2: ‘Lost Girls’ (2017), double chapter that taught us two key moments of Annie and Mikasa, respectively, during the events of the season.
film summary: ‘The roar of awakening’ (2018) brings together the first arc of season 2, that is, chapters 26 to 37 of the series.
‘Attack on Titan’: season 3 part 1 (2018, 12 chapters)
The third season of the series is very differentiated into two parts, but both progress towards the truth, and the great secret of the titans. The first part focuses on the political plot and the power inside the walls. It contains chapters 51-72 of the manga.
‘Attack on Titan’: season 3 part 2 (2019, 9 chapters)
With matters behind the walls in order, the protagonists set out for an epic fight to reach Eren’s basement and reconquer the world outside the walls. Contains the manga chapters from 73 to 90.
Summary movies: ‘Shingeki no Kyojin: Chronicle’ (2019) summarizes the first three seasons of the series in just over two hours.
‘Attack on Titan’: last season part 1 (2020-2021, 16 chapters)
The famous Mappa Studio took the reins with the aim of adapting the end of the manga, from chapters 90 to 139. This first part contains most of the rest of the story.
‘Attack on Titan’: last season part 2 (2022, 12 chapters)
However, Mappa is taking his time to adapt the ending in the most detailed way possible, without losing a moment of a denouement that in the manga is considered very controversial. This second part leaves us at the gates.
‘Attack on Titan’: last season part 3 part 1 (2023, 2 chapters)
No, we’re not quite there yet, but almost. After a year of waiting, Mappa gave us an epic double chapter in the form of a one-hour special with a feature-length production level.
‘Attack on Titan’: final season part 3 part 2
There are still no images of what could be the last part of ‘Attack on Titan’, although it is not ruled out that there is a third. Of course, more than three could not be watching the manga material that remains to be adapted. Mappa has promised that it will arrive in the second half of this 2023.
Extra Ball: ‘Attack on Titan’ chibi version
For those who don’t know, the chibi versions are stubborn and infantilized animations. That’s what two miniseries did, ‘Attack on Titan – Chibi Character Theater: Take flight, squads of cadets! (2013) and ‘Attack on Titan: June High’ (2015). While the first recreates the training years of the protagonists, the second remakes the first seasons of the series in the form of a youth comedy, taking the action to a high school where the titans are just some kind of special students on the other side of the wall. They repeat the same voice actors from the main series, so it’s very punchy and serves to humorously vent the characters in a story full of tributes, but much less dramatic.
Extra Ball 2: ‘Attack on Titan’ live Action
In 2015 ‘Attack on Titan’ was released, a live-action version that had its sequel by the same director, Shinji Higuchi, that same year with ‘Attack on Titan 2: The End of the World’. The first focused on the beginning of the anime, until the revelation of Eren’s power, and the second continued these events, so we can consider them complementary to the first season. Although they are quite gore, they are so seedy that we recommend them as a humorous curiosity.
A project has also been announced by Hollywood for 2024 with Andy Muschietti (‘It’) in the direction chair. However, it seems that the pre-production is not progressing, and we do not know any news about the cast or the shooting.
