Eren Jaeger and his half-brother Zeke will either change or destroy the world when Attack on Titan returns for the second half of its final season. If Eren, who owns the Founding Titan, and Zeke, who possesses the necessary royal blood to use it, manage to make contact, they will gain omnipotent control over all Titans and Subjects of Ymir, that is, – say the Eldian people. As they prepare to put their plans into action, as Yelena describes it, the two brothers are set to change the world. The relationship between Eren and Zeke is going to be vital to the final season and the fate of all the characters in the series.
Half-brothers Eren and Zeke share the same father, Grisha Jaeger. While Zeke was raised in the Liberio internment area by his radical father and prepared to become the savior of the Eldian people, Eren was raised in peace on the Isle of Paradise. Ignoring the Eldian hatred that Zeke grew up with, Eren was a fairly normal child until Marley’s first attack on the Isle of Heaven at the start of the series forced Grisha to turn Eren into a Titan and point him to proof of the truth of the world. Although the brothers took very different paths, they both became obsessed with their father’s goal of freeing the Eldian people from imprisonment and bigotry.
The Jaeger brothers didn’t meet until the end of Season 3, with Eren unaware that the enemy Titan in front of him was his older half-brother. While Zeke has always wanted to save Eren from their father’s brainwashing, Eren only recently started working with Zeke, the two having met in secret before Eren’s attack on Marley in the final season. In fact, Eren’s plan to launch a preemptive attack on Marley was not only to buy time for the Isle of Paradise, but also to extract Zeke from enemy territory.
Eren appears to have rallied around Zeke’s euthanasia plan, which calls for the sterilization of the Eldian people so that, unable to reproduce, they will die peacefully over the next century. As if eliminating their own race wasn’t enough, Eren also plans to use the power of the Founding Titan to unleash the millions of Colossian Titans within the walls of Heaven Island as a show of force, preventing the other countries to attack while the Eldians peacefully die off. This horrific and genocidal plan has been at the center of the final season, as various groups fight to prevent or bring it to fruition.
Surprisingly, Eren agreed to take Zeke’s lead in this regard, persuaded by Zeke’s argument that the greatest kindness one can do to Eldians would be to never be born in the first place. While it’s a bit suspicious that Eren was so easily influenced by Zeke, the two brothers must work together in order to use the power of the Founder Titan, so their cooperation is also a thing of necessity. Each of the Jaeger brothers wants to save the Eldian people, and if working together is the only way to achieve this, then agreeing or even agreeing to a compromise would be a logical step.
When the Final Season: Part 2 picks up where it left off, Eren will find himself alone facing the Marleyan army, while Zeke will have been transported to an unknown region by a Titan after being smashed to pieces by a spear of thunder. While Shiganshina appears to be the agreed-upon meeting place, it is also a war zone, meaning their mission to make contact is sure to be a long and bloody battle filled with the classic chaos and carnage of AOT. . The Jaeger brothers will have to rely on their strength of will and faith in each other if they intend to carry out their plan as a real war rages around them.
It’s unclear exactly what will happen if Eren and Zeke manage to make contact, other than that they will control the Founding Titan. As they are not bound by King Fritz’s vow to renounce war, they will be free to wield the Founder Titan as they see fit, which would be the end of the game for anyone who hoped to stop them. It is well established that the rampage of the Wall Titans will drown the world in blood, and the Jaeger brothers have already shown that they are ready to do anything, even betray and kill, to carry out their plan. They are the only ones who understand each other, and together they could destroy the world.
