More than a year and three months after its original release in December 2020, the Japanese band Shinsei Kamattechan finally released the music video for the theme “MyWar“, which was used as the opening theme for the first part of the anime Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season (Attack on Titan). The animation was carried out by the collaboration of studios Rabbit MACHINE, StudioXD and studies Suiko.
“MyWar” is the fifteenth single from Shinsei Kamattechan and the sixth as a limited release, after “Mainichi ga News” in 2019. It is the second song used in the franchise of Shingeki no Kyojin after “Yuugure no Tori” of 2017. Like “Yuugure no Tori“, the cover of “MyWar” was drawn by the creator of Shingeki no Kyojin, Hajime Isayama. It shows a girl, probably Gabi Braun, holding a rifle, dressed in school clothes and standing in the middle of a classroom. In an interview with the site Comic NatalieIsayama said: «As a loyal fan of Shinsei Kamattechan, I am very happy to see the opening song composed by them».
In another interview with Comic Natalie, Nokoa member of the band, said: «“My War” is a song that mixes all of Shinsei Kamattechan’s styles, including intense, deep and subtle, rock and beautiful. And because of the big budget the producer gave him up front, he was able to incorporate the coveted symphony into the song.». Noko later said that Isayama had a lot in common with the band, so just like with “Yuugure no Tori“, this collaboration was easy to achieve, and it was also related to the dark style of the last season of Shingeki no Kyojin.
The singer revealed that the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan also affected the genre of “MyWar“. He indicated that he was in a state of mental and emotional instability in 2020, but noted that it was beneficial and reflected in the result of his work.
