The animation studios that shine in 2022

As we’re nearly halfway through 2022, it’s time to take a look back at the first half of the year and give some credit to some of our favorite anime studios that have made a wonderful job. With the 2022 summer season fast approaching, let’s dive into the history of which animation studios had the best 2022 year so far!

7. Shin-Ei Animation

Shin-Ei Animation deserves the recognition it deserves halfway through the year. Although many fans are unfamiliar with the studio, it has a few major titles under its belt. The first is Teasing Master Takagi-san Season 3 in winter 2022 and a movie for the same series in spring. Shin-Ei Animation is also hosting A Couple of Cuckoos this spring in collaboration with SynergySP, which has received positive reception and will continue through summer with 24 episodes in total.

Combining all of this with continuation anime such as Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan, Shin-Ei Animations is having a good mid-year. With Chimimo and the Iii Icecrin Double children’s anime set to air this summer, as well as A Couple of Cuckoos, Shin-Ei Animation is already up to seven projects in total for the year, matching the number of projects that she had in 2021.

6. Pictures A-1

Since the studio only has one anime series currently airing and two episodes of another series that have been delayed for three months, A-1 Pictures is probably the most questionable studio on this list. But after the two-episode show that closed the first season of 86 Eighty-Six last March, and now Kaguya-sama: Love Is War – Ultra Romantic (Season 3) for the spring 2022 season, A-1 Pictures has delivered some high-quality anime this year – as minimal as that is.

86 Eighty-Six is the only anime to dethrone Attack on Titan Season Finale Part 2 from its top spot in our Winter 2022 weekly polls. Not only did 86 Eighty-Six dethrone the hit series, but it did in two consecutive weeks. Now in the Spring 2022 season, Kaguya-sama dominates the charts, placing comfortably in the top 5 every week since the first episode of the new season aired. The series is also currently the second highest rated anime of Spring 2022 on MyAnimeList and Anilist.

5.JC Staff

JC Staff doesn’t have a very popular year-to-date title like the others on this list. But they hosted a strong program overall for the Winter 2022 and Spring 2022 seasons respectively. With The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest and How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom Part 2 to start off the year, the studio gave anime fans two fantasy-themed anime that both managed to attract an audience. respectable. Then, in the Spring 2022 season, we received the more popular The Executioner and Her Way of Life and the lesser known The Demon Girl Next Door 2, both of which received fairly positive reviews.

All in all, JC Staff has yet to give us something that wows audiences. But his lineup has noticeable mid-range depth that deserves recognition. And now the studio is set to release its first major title this year with the airing of DanMachi Season 4 this summer, which is sure to push it up the list by the end of the year, according to its course.

4. OLM

OLM has sneakily been one of the best anime studios this year. Having animated 11 projects in 2022 (14 in 2021), the studio has taken on a lot of work recently. The only reason it’s not higher on the list is because it’s very top heavy. After Komi Can’t Communicate Season 2, Summertime Render and Life With an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated Into a Total Fantasy Knockout, which were the big projects of the year, and Love All Play, which added a bit more depth to the list, the rest is not likely to turn heads, at least halfway through.

And while it didn’t receive the same reviews as the original animated series, OLM also released the Odd Taxi Movie: In The Woods this spring. All in all, OLM’s offer at this point undoubtedly earns it a rightful spot on this list.

3.MAPPA

Sometimes less is more. While many feel that MAPPA is now the studio taking on too many projects, they currently only have two series that have aired so far this year – Attack on Titan Season Finale Part 2 and Dance Dance. Dancer. But given the impact Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2 left, MAPPA deserves to be on this list. Dance Dance Dancer is nowhere near the same level of popularity, but it still managed to build a decent following and an average overall rating.

After setting weekly records on the Anime Corner chart and trending on social media with every new episode, MAPPA’s work on Attack on Titan Season Finale Part 2 lifted the studio to third place this season. list, rightly so.

MAPPA has announced future works to be released in 2022, including Kakegurui Twin during the summer and Chainsaw Man later in the year. MAPPA has also released a trailer for the upcoming manga adaptation of Yuji Kaku’s Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku. No official release date has been announced.

2.CloverWorks

Heading into 2022, CloverWorks has produced some notable anime this year, including two strong contenders for Anime of the Year in back-to-back seasons with My Dress-Up Darling (Winter 2022) and Spy x Family (Spring 2022). , in collaboration with WIT Studio). CloverWorks also animated the absolutely stunning anime Akebi Sailor’s Uniform during the winter of 2022. However, the studio hit a snag when Tokyo 24th Ward ran into production issues. But the original TV series ended on a high note and remained enjoyable to watch.

Other series from CloverWorks this year include In the Heart of Kunoichi Tsubaki (Spring 2022) and the children’s anime sequel Norimono Man: Mobile Land no Car-kun. As of now, CloverWorks has yet to announce any plans for 2022. However, Spy x Family is officially listed for a second court after the first 12 episodes.

1. Wit Studio

What can be said about Wit Studio that hasn’t already been said at this stage? Since passing the torch of Attack on Titan to MAPPA, Wit Studio hasn’t faltered and hasn’t faltered, especially in 2022. Starting the year with the second half of the first season of Ranking of Kings, Wit Studio has managed to give us one fantastic project after another this year. From Ranking of Kings in the winter to Spy x Family, Bubble and Vampire in the Garden in the spring, Wit Studio has had arguably the best 2022 year so far compared to any other animation studio.

What some may not have noticed is that Wit Studio also co-hosted a gorgeous three-minute commercial for Magic: The Gathering earlier this year, which has been viewed over a million times. on Youtube. As mentioned earlier, Spy x Family will have a second backyard which will also be co-hosted by CloverWorks. Otherwise, no future plans for this year have been announced by Wit Studio. However, the Moonrise series has a time slot during Netflix’s upcoming GEEKED WEEK on June 8. The anime’s original sci-fi series has not received any news since its official series announcement in 2018, so it will be interesting to see what is announced regarding the series.
