Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) has had an unparalleled reception, so it seems only natural that its director is looking to follow up on that success with his next anime movie: Bubble. Fortunately, he will not be alone as he will have the support of Madoka Magica writer Gen Urobuchi.
This story will take place in a very different place than seen in Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan), now it’s post-apocalyptic Tokyo where our protagonist will travel through the city at an impressive speed (thanks to the excellent work of Wit Studio):
If the voice of the song in the trailer sounds familiar to you, it’s because “Bubble feat. Uta” is produced by Japanese singer-songwriter Eve. She previously contributed music to Jujutsu Kaisen soundtracks and Josee, The Tiger and The Fish, so it’s no surprise that he’s back in this movie.
Expectations for Bubble are extremely high as the film is being produced by a team that includes some of the biggest names in the anime industry. As we mentioned at the beginning, this film is directed by the director Tetsuo Araki, best known for his work in the first three seasons of the anime. Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan)). Gen Urobuchi, the writer behind Puella Magi Madoka Magica, wrote the story for the film.
Additionally, Bubble’s characters were designed by Takeshi Obata, who previously created the art for the manga Death Note and Platinum End. The film is being produced at Wit Studio, the critically acclaimed animation company behind such hits as Vivy: Fluorite Eyes’ Song, Ranking of Kings, and the new Spy x Family anime adaptation. Genki Kawamura, who previously worked on Your Name and Belle, is serving as the film’s producer.
The film stars Jun Shison as its protagonist, Hibiki. Shison previously starred in the live-action adaptations of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day and The Way of the Househusband. Bubble will also feature the debut as voice actress for Japanese pop singer Riria, who will play the film’s mysterious female lead, Uta, and will also perform the film’s ending theme song, “Ja ne, Mata ne.” (Roughly translated as “Goodbye, see you later”).
Riria was personally selected for the role by director Araki personally.. The film will also feature the voice acting talents of Mamoru Miyano (Death Note, Chihayafuru), Tasuku Hatanaka (My Hero Academia), and Yuuki Kaji (Eren Jaeger in Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan)).
