Well, great news has just been shared online, My Dress Up Darling will return with a season 2 sequel – here’s everything fans need to know.

My Dress Up Darling season 2 sequel confirmed

Today, September 17, it was officially confirmed via the My Dress Up Darling site that the sequel to season 2 was now in production!

“The production of the sequel to the TV anime “Sono wa Koi ni suru dress-up doll” has been decided!
A sequel to the TV anime “Sono Kisehae Ningyo ha Koi wo Suru” has been decided! We look forward to your continued support for “Sono Kisebutsu Ningyo ha Koi wo Suru” in the future. – Bisquedoll-anime website.

Shinichi Fukuda, author of the original manga series, commented, “We are very happy. Thanks a lot. I look forward to it” adding that “I am very happy to have continued to be a manga artist.”

Along with the renewal news, a special trailer was also released on Aniplex’s YouTube channel – see below.

While news of the My Dress Up Darling sequel is welcome, fans of the hit animated series were already convinced that Marin and Gojo would continue their budding romance in a second show. Indeed, there are both plenty of sources from Shinichi Fukuda’s original manga series for CloverWorks to adapt for a second anime season, and the series is popular enough around the world to merit a renewal.

According to a breakdown of anime geek, My Dress Up Darling Episode 12 covered everything up to Chapter 39 of Volume 5 of the manga. The good news is that since September 17, nine tankobon volumes have been published in Japan and the series is still ongoing. This means that there is enough source material available to begin production on My Dress Up Darling Season 2 right off the bat.

Next, we believe the anime series is popular enough, both domestically and internationally, to warrant a renewal for a second season at CloverWorks. The series currently scores an impressive 4.9/5 on Reviews on Crunchyroll8.1/10 the IMDB and 8.31/10 on MyListAnime with over 452,000 reviews and 760,000 members.

Indeed, My Dress Up Darling was, when it was broadcast, the Top Rated CloverWorks production on MyAnimeList since the first season of The Promised Neverland, which premiered in January 2019. Since then, the title has been surpassed by Spy x Family, Rascal Doesn’t Dream of Bunny Girl, Saekano the Movie, and The Promised Neverland season 1 again.

It was therefore reasonable to assume that the production company would surely be chomping at the bit to produce more animated content for the My Dress Up Darling franchise – great news for fans of the hit series.

The series has also maintained an outstanding ranking in the various viewership polls that run throughout the anime airing slate. According Animated TrendsMy Dress Up Darling has won biannual “Best Anime” polls since its debut, appearing in the Top 10 for ten consecutive weeks!

All in all, given both the availability of the manga series’ source material and the outstanding popularity of the anime adaptations with global audiences, it was only a matter of time before CloverWorks confirmed the season 2 of My Dress Up Darling – but when could it come out?

When could season 2 of My Dress Up Darling be released?

Although a release window for My Dress Up Darling season 2 has yet to be confirmed, we can make some predictions on its target return date based on the season 1 production cycle.

The anime adaptation of the hit manga series was publicly announced in the ninth issue of Young Gangan magazine in April 2021. Episode 1 would then debut on Japanese television networks 10 months later on the slate of winter 2023 anime starting January 9th.e.

The only issue with this is the amount of source material currently available to CloverWorks for Season 2. As previously stated, the first season covered up to Volume 5 of the manga, with nine volumes released in Japan.

This means that if CloverWorks wants to maintain its 12-episode season length, it should ideally wait until at least one, if not two, additional manga volumes have been released.

Based on author Shinichi Fukuda’s current release schedule for new content, fans can expect the next volume to launch in five or six months; around November 2022.

Assuming CloverWorks would be able to maintain a similar production cycle for the second season, anime fans could theoretically see Marin and Gojo return as early as July 2023; although an October 2023 return to the Fall Slate is also very likely.

While nine full manga volumes have been released in Japan, the English launch with Square Enix is slightly behind the domestic series.

As of September 2022, six volumes have been released in English, with Volume 7 slated for beginning in January 2023.

Physical volumes of the English version of the My Dress Up Darling manga series can be purchased through Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, Books-A-Million and Indigo.

Alternatively, fans can read the manga through digital platforms, which can also be acquired through Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, Books-A-Million and Indigo.
