Attack on Titan season 4: a sequel confirmed for the anime (but we will have to wait)

As expected, the 12th episode of part 2 of season 4 of The attack of the Titans did not mark the end of the anime which has (yet) formalized a new sequel.

After a first part of 16 episodes longer than usual, season 4 of The attack of the Titans continues to play extra time and delay its grand finale. The hit anime adapted from Hajime Isayama’s manga first announced a 12-episode second half season, which began airing in January 2022. But fans, and especially readers of the manga, expected good that the 87th episode of the anime aired this April 3 and presented as the last of this final season is ultimately not the long-awaited conclusionwhich was more or less confirmed upstream when the studio MAPPA announced that part 2 of season 4 would go until the 130th chapter of the manga.

Fans as episode 87 got closer

The series must therefore still adapt two volumes, from the 131st chapter to the 139th. And if the rumors also spoke of a double final episode (the broadcast of The dawn of humanity having been postponed for a week), the release of a feature film to conclude the work was one of the preferred avenues by the public. Even more after the film’s release and success Jujutsu Kaisen 0 produced by MAPPA, or Demon Slayer: The Infinity Train which kicked off season 2 of the anime of the same name.

But the remaining nine chapters of The attack of the Titans will ultimately not be the subject of a film, but ofa third part of the season as formalized by the studio when episode 87 aired.

The exact number of episodes of this third, and this time last part of season 4 has not yet been announced, but part 2 having adapted one chapter per episode, the next one could be shorter than usual with only 9 or 10 episodes. Unless the studio again stretches the narration back to a standard 12-episode format.

No precise date has been communicated, but we will still have to remain patient since this new batch will not arrive before 2023, probably for the first quarter of the year. By then, the public will have discovered chain saw manan upcoming anime adapted from the eponymous manga which should soon become the new phenomenon of the MAPPA studio.
