Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba revealed a curious weakness of Tanjiro Kamado’s black sword in the latest episode of the anime! The highly anticipated second season of the series is now in full swing as the Mugen Train arc from the original Koyoharu Gotouge manga kicked off with the second episode of the new season. After seeing Kyojuro Rengoku investigate the mystery behind the Mugen Train, he is now (along with Tanjiro’s company) waiting for the main threat to emerge. Meanwhile, Tanjiro and Rengoku were able to have a pretty revealing conversation.
When Tanjiro found out he was going to join Rengoku for this next mission, he wanted to ask the Flame Hashira how he had been able to harness Rengoku’s style fire abilities using the Hinokami Kagura dance in the fight against Rui. in the first season. It’s here that Rengoku clarifies some things not only about breathing styles, but reveals a curious fact about Tanjiro’s black sword that may well prevent the young fighter from reaching the highest levels of not only the Demon Slaying Corps. , but also of his own art of the saber.
Asking Rengoku what he might know about how Tanjiro’s father adapted the Hinokami Kagura for combat, Rengoku reveals he has no idea. He has never heard of the term, nor does he know how a dance is suited to combat. Rengoku then refuses to tell Tanjiro more about the art of the sword unless he becomes his apprentice, but he explains a few other curiosities. He reveals that there has always been a flame and water swordsman among the Hashira.
There are different styles of breathing, but they are mainly offshoots of the five main elements, flame, water, wind, stone, and water. Rengoku discovers that Tanjiro’s saber is black and calls him “unhappy” because he has never seen anyone with a black saber reach Hashira’s level. He goes on to say that they don’t know which style to master, and offers to train Tanjiro once more. So while Tanjiro’s black sword seemed to offer some potential, it only confirms the idea of doom he initially had with his black blade.
