Four years after the cartoon of Three Houses, the Fire Emblem saga returns to Nintendo Switch with an all-new episode for its main series. Entitled Engaged, this new adventure takes place in the continent of Elyos which is made up of four kingdoms that surround a holy land. A thousand years ago, a terrible war opposed the inhabitants of this Earth to the Fallen Dragon and the latter seems to be on the verge of rebirth. In this setting, you play as Alear, who can be male or female, who wakes up after a thousand-year slumber with no memory of his past other than being part of the revered royal family of dragons. what gods. As usual, Fire Emblem Engage takes the form of a tactical role-playing game with turn-based combat in which you move your units on a battlefield divided into squares. But the great originality of this episode is above all that we find characters from previous titles in the saga who return in the form of a spirit, like Marth, hero of the very first Fire Emblem.

From the first images that we have seen so far, we find everything that had the charm of the first episode. In terms of adventure, we discover a cast of eight completely new characters who each have their own story. Finally, in terms of gameplay, it will always be about turn-based combat with an elemental weakness system that plays a central role. Mato Anomalies

Among all the Japanese games that we find in this list, we can say that Mato Anomalies is… an anomaly. Developed by the Shanghai studio Arrowiz, it is a role-playing game with turn-based combat that benefits from an anime aesthetic thanks to its cel-shaded rendering. With its universe between cyberpunk and demon, Mato Anomalies is reminiscent of the Shin Megami Tensei saga, another series of role-playing games that we know today mainly for personas 5. In a retro-futuristic version of Shanghai, we follow the adventures of private detective Doe who finds himself transported to a parallel dimension populated by strange creatures who try to attack him. Luckily, our hero then meets Gram, a taciturn and unsympathetic exorcist, who will get him out of trouble. Together, they then collaborate to fight the mysterious organization Nightshade. With its original aesthetic, Mato Anomalies promises to be an astonishing project since apart from the confrontations against demons that we perform with Gram, we are entitled to interrogation phases with Doe which take the form of a card game. .

Trinity Trigger

Beneath its anime tunes and colorful graphics, Trinity Trigger is a top-down action role-playing game reminiscent of Secret of Mana. On the ground, we therefore find ourselves with three characters, Cyan, Elise and Zantis, and the experience is obviously playable for up to three players in local cooperation. Each of them has a Trigger, kind of cute little creatures that can shapeshift into different types of weapons at will. A very practical option since all the subtlety of the combat system is based on exploiting the weak point of the enemies to overcome them more simply. Thus, all three together, our heroes will travel the continent of Trinita exploring different biomes and dungeons, obviously with the aim of saving the world.

  • Release date : First semester 2023
  • Also coming out on PS4 and PS5

Initially planned for 2022, it is finally next year that Metal Slug Tactics will land on Switch and PC. As its name suggests, it will therefore be a tactical role-playing game, but where the formula is original is that it applies to the Metal Slug series, known for being one of the great arcade game sagas with its 2D shooter gameplay. The little bonus to all this is that this project signed DotEmu and Leikir Studio will also include a rogue-lite dimension to give a unique side to each game. For the moment, the title is quite discreet and we know little about what the final experience will offer, except that we find the famous, particularly detailed sprites of the time which retain all their charm.

  • Release date : 2023
  • Also released on PC

Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2

Relatively discreet past in 2021, Fuga: Melodies of Steel is a very personal project for the developers of Cyber Connect 2, who have been best known in recent years for their video game adaptations of famous anime such as Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm or more recently Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles. Far from these licenses known to the general public, Fuga is a rather surprising experience since it is a role-playing game with elements of strategy, shooter, but also roguelike. As for the story, the action takes place in the small world of Little Tail Bronx populated by anthropomorphic animals, that is to say animals with human appearance. While their village has been destroyed by the Empire, we follow a group of eleven children who have managed to survive and who take refuge in a gigantic tank which will be used to save their family. Unfortunately, the path will be paved with sacrifice and tragedy which makes this story all the more touching. If little is known about the sequel, Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2we should find many elements that made the charm of the first.

Behind this extended title, there are updated versions of the first episodes of Suikoden, two cult titles originally released on the first PlayStation of the name. Among the novelties, all the portraits of the heroes have been redone in HD, as have the sprites of the characters and the environments which will be able to benefit from many beautiful visual effects. Ambient sounds will also be added to make the adventure more lively.
