JoJo back in video games

Final Fantasy is not the only license to celebrate its 35th anniversary this year: this is also the case for the manga JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. While the former made a noticeable absence from yesterday’s State of Play (despite the presence of the spin-off game Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin), it was the latter who briefly celebrated its birthday at the event organized by Playstation. Bandai Namco then announced JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R, the remaster of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle first released on PS3 in 2013. Nine years later, CyberConnect2 is still in development. The Japanese studio is the reference for their often faithful transcriptions of anime adaptations in the video game world. It is to them that we owe the many Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm and have recently been at work with the adaptation of the first narrative arcs of Kimetsu no Yaiba with Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series and Xbox One.

A faithful transcription which also seems to be guaranteed for this JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R since the trailer published last night by Bandai Namco promises to find one of the key characteristics of the manga and the anime: the graphic touch created by Hirohiko Araki for his work. But then, what’s new for this new edition?

R for Remaster?

In an article published on the PlayStation Blog, it is the producer of Bandai Namo Kentaro Matano who returns to the additions of the game expected this fall. Unlike the expected game released in 2013, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R includes all characters once distilled through DLC and additional content. It is therefore a total of fifty fighters drawn from different narrative arcs of history: Jonathan Joestar, Jotaro Kujo, DIO, Jolyne Cujoh… every fan of JoJo’s should find happiness there.

With reworked pacing combat and the addition of blocks and jump charges, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R dusts off the experience by giving it a nice boost. The new recordings with the voices of the actors of part six of the anime allow them to faithfully recreate the atmosphere of the series.

But in terms of the fidelity of the game compared to the work, it will be necessary to wait for the release of the game to be sure. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R is expected this fall on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch.
