The film Jujutsu Kaisen 0, prequel to the eponymous phenomenon anime, is revealed in a new trailer.
2022 promises to be a vintage for Japanese animation, like the many revelations that the Jump Festa delivered during the weekend of December 18 and 19. News from the next movie Dragon Ball, the return of Bleach, a new trailer for the 2022 bomb, Chainsaw Man, and a trailer for the prequel to Jujutsu Kaisen, soberly titled Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
Also written by Gege Akutami, the film will follow the events described in volume 0 of Jujutsu Kaisen, renamed a posteriori to embrace its prequel condition to the already cult series, which has sold more than 60 million volumes. An exorbitant number for such a recent series, which is spoken of as one of the pillars of the revival of the Jump, alongside for example Demon Slayer Where Chainsaw Man.
In the wake of the film Demon Slayer: Infinity Train, which had been one of the biggest successes of a 2020 marked by the pandemic and postponements (with more than $ 500 million in revenue), perhaps the French cinemas and the various SVoD services will adopt a slightly more aggressive strategy to exploit the film adapted from the manga phenomenon.
Like the manga of which it is an adaptation, the film is set to follow the fate of Yuta Okkotsu, haunted by his childhood friend he was planning to marry, Rika Orimoto. After a bloody incident in his high school in Tokyo, he is confined by Satoru Gojo (who for the occasion does not yet have his characteristic pretty headband), as Yuji Itadori will later be. Gojo’s guidance will enable Yuta to become a peerless exorcist, and we will follow him in this endeavor.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 should obviously move the crowds who snatched the 60 million volumes of the manga, all the more so with the prospect of discovering the public’s favorite characters earlier in the story. We obviously think of Gojo, but Panda, Zenin, Inumaki or Geto will be there as the trailer proves.
Finally, animation made in MAPPA should once again delight us. The busiest studio in the world should continue to provide us with some lively and top-quality animation on the market. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will be released on December 24 in Japan, but for the moment no French broadcast, in theaters or in SVoD is planned.
