When Jujutsu Kaisen 0 was made official, fans around the world wanted to know if it was going to arrive in their country, whether on a streaming platform or directly in their dark rooms. The Japanese release date was scheduled for December 24, 2021. Crunchyroll subsequently announced a North American, and therefore international, release for March 18, 2022. Francefilms released on Wednesdays, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 arrives at the cinema March 16, 2022. It is distributed both in VF what about VOSTFR.

A broadcast at the cinema

The film is scheduled for March 16, 2022 At the movie theater. It is Crunchyroll and CGR Events which distribute the feature film in France. Although the number of theaters where fans will be able to see Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has not been communicated, we know from reliable sources that it is a national release. All the operators present on the territory are therefore involved (at their discretion), namely CGR, Pathe-Gaumont, UGC as well as independent actors. The adaptation will probably be eligible for streaming on Crunchyroll within 17 months according to French law (see media timeline).

An “Origin Story”

Based on volume 0 of the manga, the film is produced by MAPPA studios, already in charge of the series since the beginning. The feature film is a prequel to the original manga and therefore to the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series. The story focuses on the character of Yuta Okkotsu, a child who saw his friend Rika Orimoto die before his eyes in an accident. The latter then comes back to haunt him and terrorizes the life of our hero. Later, the young man is welcomed by Satoru Gojo, a genius exorcist who teaches him to master his powers. Yuta gradually regains a taste for life, until the day when a mysterious being threatens to exterminate all non-exorcists in Shinjuku and Kyoto.

A box in Japan

The Jujutsu Kaisen saga has been talked about all around the globe. In Japan, publications in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump interested nearly 60 million readers. With extraordinary growth, the manga ranks first in sales in 2021 with more than 30 million copies sold, ahead of two other major sagas… Demon Slayer and Tokyo Revengers.

The preview of the film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 recorded a record at the box office by becoming one of Japan’s 50 biggest releases for a total profit of 9.3 billion yen (70.9 million euros). MAPPA was thus able to exceed the results of the film Evangelion 3.0+1.0 which was itself the record of 2021 until then. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has thus become the 34th most profitable film in the history of the Japanese box office, ahead of the film Evangelion mentioned above, but also a certain The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
