News culture Jujutsu Kaisen 0: the film is a hit in Japan, but is it doing as well as Demon Slayer?
Released on December 24, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 seems built for success. The film is doing almost as well as Demon Slayer, which was a hit last year. Here are the first figures revealed.

The second best start
This year, the Japanese were able to celebrate Christmas at the cinema with the release of Jujutsu Kaisen 0. The film, whose events predate Gege Akutami’s eponymous manga, was released on December 24. And many Japanese decided to go see him, evidenced by the figures shared by Crunchyroll. 772,224 seats were sold on the first day, generating one billion yen in revenue (7.7 million euros): this is the second best start of a film in Japan, the best being attributed to Demon Slayer: Infinity Train.
Initially, the production house TOHO underestimated the demand for premieres, showing the film only in 14 theaters for a total of 28 screens: the ticket offices were stormed, emptied of their stock for two minutes after the places are online. TOHO then expanded the broadcast to 58 screens, still in 14 theaters, across 7 major cities in Japan.
Demon Slayer first at the box office, Jujutsu not far?
A box that should also be seen at the Japanese box office. Over the first three days of broadcast, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has therefore generated 2.6 billion yen and should meet the expectations of Toho which forecasts 10 billion yen in revenue. An important step since it is almost synonymous with entering the top 20 films with the best numbers, with in mind Demon Slayer: Infinity Train ; Spirited away and Titanic : they respectively generated 39 billion yen, 31 billion yen and 26 billion yen.
When Jujutsu Kaisen 0 with us? For now, no one knows. It took eight months to see Demon Slayer: The Infinity Train land in French cinemas, and an entire year in simulcast on Wakanim and Crunchyroll. If it is legitimate to expect similar treatment for Jujutsu Kaisen Zero, we will have to patiently take the trouble and wait for official information.
