Kimetsu no Yaiba was crowned the most successful manga of this 2021 and Koyoharu Gotouge’s work does not stop setting records in different areas of the industry.
This 2021 his film, Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train, became the most successful anime film in Japan and around the world; And not only this, in its native country it is the film with the best box office in all history.
Now, an Oricon listing, revealed by Anime News Networks, reported on the 30 best-selling manga volumes in this 2021 and of course, the show also known as Demon Slayer is at the top. This list takes into account sales from November 2020 to November 2021, so starting December we already have the complete figures.
The best-selling volume of the year was volume 23 of Kimetsu no Yaiba, which contains the final chapters of the manga. In these 12 months it added more than 5.7 million copies sold, thus becoming the best-selling volume since Oricon began creating its lists in 2008. But this is the only record, in fact Kimetsu has 19 volumes with sales of more than five million each. Few franchises in the industry can boast this record.
The second place on the list belongs to Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Stories of Water and Flame, a spinoff starring Giyu Tomioka and Kyojuro Rengoku, with 2.3 million units sold. But third place came dangerously close to it and is another one of the hottest franchises in the anime / manga world.
Have you heard of Jujutsu Kaisen? Of course it is, Gege Akutami’s manga is one of the most successful of the moment, in part thanks to its anime adaptation that has a season on the air and an upcoming movie to premiere this December. Four volumes of this work occupied the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th place of sales, leaving below them a classic of these lists, One Piece, which managed to place its volumes # 98, # 99 and # 100 in the 6th places, 8th and 9th.
The Top 10 is closed by Jujutsu Kaisen again, which later takes the positions up to the 20th place. In the first 20 places of the best-selling manga in Japan in 2021, Jujutsu has 15 volumes located, Kimetsu no Yaiba only two, but They are the first, and One Piece three.
