On March 27, 2012, Bleach concludes its Fullbring arc and signs the temporary end of theanime. Whereas naruto and One Piece continue on their way, we have just witnessed the last appearance of the Big 3 on the screen. Regarding the manga, naruto ends his work with volume 72 in 2014 and Bleach ends in 2016, while One Piece continues to reach the heights even today.
October 2022: the last arc of Bleach, Millennial Bloody War, is finally adapted. With Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and One Piece. Fans are ecstatic, the Big 3 is back and it’s going to be a hit. But what is the Big 3? Is it worth it ? Who to take up the torch? These questions are answered below.
What is the Big 3?
The Big 3 is an expression used in the 2000s to designate the three most popular manga of the time: One Piece, naruto and Bleach. For several years, Luffy, Naruto, and Ichigo appeared on the cover of Weekly Shōnen Jump, thus boosting the magazine’s sales then on the decline. Add to that the long animated adaptations (366 episodes for the Shinigami, 720 for the ninjas and more than 1,000 for the pirates) and we get three works that have made the world of manga shine throughout the world, becoming classics of the gender shōnen and making the 2000s the golden age of manga.
dragonball is not in the Big 3
No, just like Hunter x Hunter. These works will never enter the Big 3. In fact, in the 1990s, the Japanese people are addicted to manga and never the sales of the Weekly Shōnen Jump been stronger (and never will be again). dragonball is the beacon that illuminates the world of manga, followed by other works like slam dunk and Saint Seiya. But dragonball ends with Boo’s death (sorry for the spoiler) and Weekly Shōnen Jump no longer has anything to steer its boat. That’s when the Big 3 arrives.
In fact, dragonball is the Big 1 of the 1990s, the manga that fills the pockets of the Japanese magazine. To make a pretty cool analogy that I share every Sunday with my grandma, dragonball is Chief Admiral Sengoku; One Piece is Admiral Sakazuki and future Chief Admiral; naruto is Aokiji, who then betrays his people; and Bleach is Kizaru, who is expected to return with grace and power shortly (or else, dragonball is Sarutobi while the members of the Big 3 are the three legendary ninjas, but I prefer the reference to One Piece).
Re Hunter x Hunterit is true that at the time of the Big 3, the manga signed more sales than Bleachbut alas, having taken quite a few breaks due to the author’s state of health, Hunter x Hunter loses hype over the years. Thus, Gon and his friends will never stand with Luffy, Naruto and Ichigo.
L’anime One Roomstill as powerful
More than 1,000 episodes, an unprecedented success, records broken every fortnight, One Piece is the goose that lays the golden eggs Weekly Shōnen Jump for two decades now. From member of the Big 3 to lone knight, theanime always keeps its promises and continues to make its fans cry with joy and sadness. After fifteen seasons, each as incredible as the next (Skypiea, what a delight), we are entitled to wonder if the sequel will be just as tough.
Well, yes, the sequel is going to be amazing. Knowing the upcoming events as reading the scans every Monday legally, I can promise you that none of the viewers are ready for what’s to come for Wano and post-Wano. No spoilers here, don’t worry. Whether One Piece is already number 1he still risks setting the bar very high and ending up watching all his comrades from a peak that no one will ever be able to reach.
L’anime Bleachthe return of the prodigal son
In 2012, when the adaptation of the Fullbring arc came to an end, it was announced that Millennial Blood War would not be adapted for the screen. The fault of the fact that theanime has caught up with the circulation of the manga and that we must therefore wait a bit. Alas, the production studio is moving on to something else in the meantime. The last chapters of the manga having received less good reviews than the first narrative arcs, it is decided that the risk of production cost / return is too great. The project therefore stops here.
But in 2022, theanime finally returns, generating a rare craze. Fans want to relive emotions experienced ten years ago. Result, this month of October, Bleach is back in anime. On the program for the next few months: big fights, Shinigami, Quincy, phew revelations, and Bankai ready to rain down on Soul Society against a backdrop of “On the Precipice of Defeat”. A big kif.
L’anime Boruto: Naruto Next Generationsonly fly in the ointment
naruto is a masterpiece which remains forever etched in the hearts of the children that we are. It was for a long time the most read manga in France, before obviously being dethroned by One Piece. So when Boruto arrives in stores and fails to even tickle the fame of its big brother, theanime becomes the target of bad reviews, teasing, and tripping on the stairs.
Apart from the incredible scene of Kurama’s sacrifice and the Baryon mode of naruto, Boruto struggles to spark any hype with fans. If theanime does not regain control of his life, he greatly compromises the balance of the Big 3. If the sun is at the rendezvous on the Thousand Sunny and in Soul Society, the weather is much grayer on the Konoha side.
Who to take up the torch of the Big 3?
As the Big 3 masterfully succeeded dragonball and other blockbusters of the 1990s, it is expected to give birth to children vibrating the zygomatics of future generations. A few names come to mind: My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, The attack of the Titans, chain saw man, tokyo revengeand Spy x Family.
Difficult to highlight three, especially since it is possible that it is not a new Big 3 but a Super 4, a Magic 5 or a Titanic 6 that sees the light of day. For now, and in my humble opinion, My Hero Academia is most likely to recover the crown of One Piecefollowed by Jujutsu Kaisen. The others are not yet up to the task, and the series The attack of the Titansalthough incredible, is already over.
Now that you know everything, we advise you to follow One Piece and Bleachand if you really have faith, Boruto.
