Sega announced the opening of a new subsidiary in Singapore on October 13, 2022. Sega Singapore Pte. ltd. will be the front of the company based in Southeast Asia, where it will undertake activities while intensifying its research on the market of the region.
Sega Singapore is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese company. By establishing an office in central Southeast Asia, Sega aims to explore the possibility of setting up more business operations to deliver Japanese entertainment content to the region.
Sega promotes and distributes its games in Southeast Asia long before establishing an office in Singapore. Sega Asia, which also covers the China and the Koreahandled regional releases of in-house titles like personas and Like a Dragonas well as external cooperation, such as Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles.
The company and its subsidiary Atlus have also created their own dedicated Facebook pages for Southeast Asian audiences. However, it remains to be seen whether Sega will add localization support for the region’s languages to its upcoming games.
Besides Sega and Atlus, Bandai Namco also established a dedicated Southeast Asia office in Singapore after splitting its Asian arm in the 2010s. It spearheaded the English localization of franchises that were previously exclusive to Japan, as Super Robot Wars. In recent months, Bandai Namco has also confirmed Thai and Indonesian language support for its new upcoming titles, such as One Piece Odyssey and Doraemon Story of Seasons: Friends of the Great Kingdom.
