‘Spirited Away’ inspires Loewe’s most delicious collection

Even more so if they are as beautiful as their new capsule collection developed in collaboration with Studio Ghibli and that leads to garments and accessories to the characters of Chichirou’s journey.

As confirmed by the creative director of the firm, Jonathan Anderson, last December, after the success of the tribute collection to my neighbor totoro, Loewe is once again linked to the famous Japanese animation studio, this time in the form of a tribute to the award-winning Hayao Miyazaki. The result, already on sale, is pure magic.

Its impact is such that it was one of the protagonists in the exhibition dedicated to Studio Ghibli with which it was inaugurated, last September 30 and after four years of delay, the Los Angeles Film Academy Museum, the largest museum dedicated to cinema in the world.

The collection reinterprets Chihiro’s fantastic dream journey in ready-to-wear garments for men and women, with characteristic handcrafted details of the firm.

The most beloved characters in the film such as Chihiro, Haku, Yubaba and the faceless spirit Kaonashi jump into some of the firm’s most iconic bags, such as the Amazon, the Puzzle, the Flamenco or the Hammock, with beautiful prints and leather details, in various sizes and colors ranging from classic brown and black to vibrant green or purple.

We also find garments with loose shapes and relaxed silhouettes, including t-shirts, hoodies, cardigans, pants and appetizing sweaters.

Scarves, blankets, fisherman’s hats and a good number of leather goods complete the collection. in tune with the Loewe craft tradition, especially in leather work, the figures are represented in original and fun ways, from jacquard to prints, appliqués, patches or embroidery.

There are landscapes turned into patterns that cover an entire piece and Susuwatari (the little soot beings) reinterpreted as tufts and pom-poms for bags, as well as a tribute to the Japanese technique known as ‘boro’ which consists of joining pieces, similar to patchwork.

On sale from January 7, the collection is presented with a careful aesthetic. The image is the work of acclaimed photographer Juergen Teller and among the models are the singer and performer Dua Saleh, Kit Butler, Hyunji Shin y Mica Arganaraz.

“Magic in the air” as Andersen defined it, the collection has its own packaging de lujo, a limited series of bags and boxes with the iconic characters and motifs of the film.
