The Hashira are willing to risk everything to protect humans in ‘Demon Slayer’: which ones have died doing it? – Start

Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers for the Demon Slayer Mugen Train movie and Demon Slayer Season 2.

When you become a demon slayer in Demon Slayer, you know that you are risking your life every day to make sure humanity is safe. In the animated series, demons have destroyed lives, and that’s a big part of why we follow the main character, Tanjiro Kamado, and his sister Nezuko.

Although the Demon Slayer anime only has two seasons so far, fans have fallen in love with all the different characters. In Season 2, we meet the members of Hashira, also known as the most powerful demon hunters of them all.

Because the Hashira are the best demon hunters, they face the toughest demons and find themselves in the deadliest situations. But who among their ranks has died? So far, there has been a lot of bloodshed.

So far, the only Hashira we know of in the Demon Slayer series who has died is Flame Hashira Kyōjurō Rengoku. Although he is not the first of the elite squad to meet Tanjiro, he is one of the first, he accepts Nezuko and will not kill her even though he is a demon.

In the Demon Slayer movie Mugen Train, Rengoku fights alongside Tanjiro and his friends as they take on the demon Enmu. He was a lower ranked demon from The Twelve Kizuki, the strongest demons second only to the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji.

After the fight with Enmu is over, the demon hunters face a new threat when Akaza, a high-ranking member of The Twelve Kizuki, meets them outside the newly destroyed train. He and Rengoku go head to head.

Although it seems that the demon slayers will win at first, Akaza is ultimately victorious. He impales Renguko with his entire arm before fleeing into the forest. After escaping, Renguko tells Tanjiro that she believes Nezuko is a member of the Demon Slayer Corps despite being a demon herself because she risked her life to protect humans.

As he bleeds out, Renguko also tells Tanjiro that he must not let anything stand in the way of reaching his goals. “Don’t feel bad because I’m going to die here,” Renguko said. As Hashira, of course, I would protect my youngsters. Any other Hashira would have done the same.”

Tengen Uzui, or Sound Hashira, faces a great battle in Demon Slayer Season 2. Here, he battles the brother-sister demon duo Daki and Gyutaro. Next to him are his three wives, Tanjiro and his friends, and Nezuko. In Episode 9, he seems to give up all hope when almost everyone is knocked out. This includes Uzui, who is bleeding and lying on the ground passed out next to his amputated hand.

Fortunately, Uzui does not die here. He is able to help Tanjiro take down Daki and Gyutaro. But he eventually loses his left eye and his left hand. During this season, we see memories of Uzui’s previous life. In one of them, his wife Hinatsuru requests that once she defeats a higher ranked demon, he retire from the Demon Slayers Corps and they all live a peaceful life together.

At the end of season 2, Uzui fulfills that goal with the deaths of Daki and Gyutaro and tells the Serpent Hashira, Obanai Iguro, that he is retiring from the Demon Slayer Corps.

You can watch Demon Slayer and Mugen Train on Crunchyroll and Hulu.
