Multiple sources, including The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and Deadline, confirmed on Monday that the popular My Hero Academia anime franchise is getting a live-action adaptation and that Netflix will be working on the project. Shortly after the report, the news flooded the internet. Although little information has been revealed at this time, a few big names have been mentioned in the report, suggesting that the upcoming live-action movie will be a huge spectacle for fans.
Acclaimed Japanese filmmaker and screenwriter Shinsuke Sato will direct the film. Sato is best known for his remarkable works in Death Note : Light Up the New World, BleachInuyashiki, Kingdom, and many others. Joby Harold, who worked on Obi-Wan Kenobi, will provide the script for the film. His other upcoming projects include Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and The Flash. Production company Legendary Entertainment is also involved in the project, with Mary Parent and Alex Garcia serving as producers. In Japan, Toho Co. Ltd will distribute the film.
Further details regarding the upcoming live-action movie have yet to be shared with us, but we can expect more announcements very soon. Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia began its original run at Shueisha in July 2014, and soon after, he has become one of the biggest names in the shonen anime category. Currently, the series is in its sixth season and has several manga spin-offs, video games and animated films.
My Hero Academia takes place in a world where most of the inhabitants have acquired special powers called Quirks, which give them unique abilities. Among this world filled with superhuman beings, Izuku is one of the few people with no abilities at all. He always looks at people with powers with bright eyes, especially his idol All Might. Izuku’s fate changes after he meets his idol, who chooses him to be the successor to his powerful powers. He then enrolls in UA High School and thus begins his journey to becoming the greatest hero the world has ever seen.
