Any normal person in his place wouldn’t be able to put up with the horrible things Shinji has to go through. And while it’s true that he might grow up or mature faster, in later adaptations of Evangelion, Shinji’s character improves a lot. He’s not always the crybaby that fans make him out to be.

But despite his flaws, Akito is one of the best developed characters in the series. Her growth from beginning to end of her makes her one of the best of hers, even though she is not always the nicest. It’s not easy to let go of toxic habits and change, so if only for that, her efforts to improve herself are highly commendable.

It is his very person, and so it should be. If fans stopped comparing, they might even find something from Boruto that they liked.
