Miyazaki has enjoyed worldwide acclaim for his works like Spirited awayreleased in 2001, Oscar for best animated film and remained for many years as the most viewed film in Japan, before being dethroned at the end of 2020 by another Japanese animated film, Demon Slayer.

Studio Ghibli, which he co-founded with the director Isao Takahatawho died in 2018, opened in Japan in early November a vast park dedicated to its universe.
