What’s Your Guilty Pleasure Anime? I will go First – Tech Tribune France

If you tell someone your favorite anime is something like Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisenor even old ones like Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moonthey will understand.

There are a lot of anime that are very popular for good reason. Either they’re well done, they have a great story, or they’re important parts of our history with the anime. Or all of them. Or maybe even none of them, they might just scratch the itch.

Of course, for a lot of people, liking anime is still considered a “cringe.” However, in the anime world, there are a lot of shows that are “good”, a lot of shows that are “bad”, and SO MUCH shows that are just plain questionable in content.

The thing is, sometimes there’s an anime that we enjoy or have enjoyed in our lives that we might consider a “guilty pleasure.” One of them shows that if we take the brave step of telling someone, we feel like we have to immediately start justifying why we like them.

For me this anime is Ouran High School Host Club.

There was always something that seemed inherently goofy about Ouran High School Host Club. Although I’ve been a fan of almost every anime one would expect a teenage girl to be in at the time, it was always Upper Ouran who ultimately felt like the one I felt most embarrassed about.

All that said, it has to be one of my all-time favorites. I loved how self-aware it was in every aspect, taking the concept of an inverted harem and breaking every million dollar male love interest stereotype while giving depth to every character.

I will admit that having watched it all in one sitting as an adult, there are definitely parts that have aged incredibly poorly. A few moments that were just…not good. On the other hand, there’s so much to love about it. Ouran High School Host Club took himself seriously at the right time but ended up being so stupid.

I’m used to showing all my ass here, so I implored others to do the same. Here is what I have.

It’s old now but my guilty pleasure anime was Fushigi Yuugi. Terrifying YA isekai romance novel material and another reverse harem-style show about a girl named Miaka and her many non-threatening boys, but it was an important part of my bisexual awakening.

Unsurprisingly, few people wanted to expose themselves here. I get that, because there are so many anime that no one would want to admit to watching. Believe me, I understand.

I’m desperate to know, though. What’s your favorite guilty pleasure anime? What’s that show you loved as a teenager or love now that maybe doesn’t match your other tastes, or makes you feel like you’re smoking a whole pack of cigarettes when you watch it? Let us know!
