“demon slayer”, also known as “Kimetsu no Yaiba”, is one of the most popular anime of the moment, it premiered on April 6, 2019 and is already preparing its third season that promises to answer all the mysteries left by the second installment from the manga adaptation created by Koyoharu Gotouge.
Set in the Taisho era, the fiction follows Tanjirō Kamado, an intelligent and good-hearted young man who, after losing his family due to an attack by a demon, must take his sister Nezuko, the only survivor, to protect her from hunters. of demons and take revenge on the beings who annihilated their loved ones.
But who’s who in “demon slayer”? Although new characters have appeared throughout the two seasons and films, only the most important of each group will be mentioned.
WHO’S WHO IN “DEMON SLAYER”?
1. Tanjirou Kamado
Tanjiro Kamado is the eldest son of a coal seller. His main goal is to find a cure for his sister Nezuko who was turned into a demon by Muzan Kibutsuji. The latter leads him to join the demon slayer guild known as demon slayers.
He trained with Sakonji Urokodaki and learned the ‘Water Breathing’ sword style, though he later focused on his family’s ‘Dance of the Fire God’ technique which is based on ‘Sun Breathing’.
2. Nezuko Kamado
Nezuko is Tanjiro’s sister and was the only one to survive Muzan Kibutsuji’s attack. Although she is a demon she retains enough of her memories to avoid killing the people important to her. She wears a bamboo muzzle placed on her by the Water Pillar (Hashira) Giyū Tomioka, after letting her live.
Nezuko has powers such as accelerated regeneration, superhuman strength, the ability to grow and shrink, and possesses a blood demon technique called ‘Blood Blast’.
3. Inosuke Hashibira
Inosuke is a young man raised by a boar and uses a self-taught style called ‘Beast Breath’. At first he considered Tanjiro an enemy, but they soon became good friends. Although he doesn’t know how to write, he recognizes his name because he had a piece of paper that said “Inosuke” and he learned to speak thanks to an old man who gave him food.
4. Zenitsu Agatsuma
Zenitsu Agatsuma, who uses ‘Lightning Breath’, was forced to join the Demon Slayers Guild to pay off his debts. After working together with Tanjiro on a mission, they become inseparable, although it is partly because he is in love with Nezuko.
5. Genya Shinazugawa
Genya is rude, bad-tempered, and obsessed with killing demons. He cannot use Breathing or most sword fighting styles, but eats parts of the demons he fights, and temporarily gains their powers.
6. Kanao Tsuyuri
Kanao Tsuyuri, the Hashira (Pillar) of the insect, grew up in a poor and abusive home, she was even sold into slavery. She uses the “Flower Breath” style and relied on the coin Kanae gave her to make decisions until Tanjiro convinced her to follow her intuition.
DEMON SLAYERS OR DEMON KILLERS
7. Kagaya Ubuyashiki
Kagaya is the leader of the demon slayers and a distant relative of Kibutsuji Muzan. His entire bloodline was cursed with a disease that slowly kills them before they reach their thirties.
8. Kiriya Ubuyashiki
After the death of his father Kagaya, Kiriya becomes his successor and leads the Demon Slayer Corps in the final battle against Muzan and his forces. After Muzan’s death, he officially disbands the Hunter Corps.
9. Giyu Tomioka
The current Hashira of Water and is the first demon slayer Tanjiro encounters and the one responsible for putting Nezuko’s trademark bamboo muzzle on. He considers that his fellow apprentice Sabito was the most suitable for the position, in addition, he sends Tanjiro with his former mentor in the hope that he can succeed him one day.
10. Shinobu Kocho
The insect hashira is quite cold and always has a smile on her face, behind which she hides a deep rage towards all the demons for taking the lives of so many of her loved ones. She doesn’t have the strength to decapitate the demons with her sword, so she infects him with a powerful poison. Before sacrificing himself to defeat the Crescent Moon, Douma, he helped Tamayo develop the cure for Nezuko’s demonic condition.
11. Mitsuri Kanroji
The current hashira of love and former student of Kyōjurō has a strange personality and superhuman strength, surpassing Uzui Tengen, Kocho Shinobu, Tokito Muichiro, Iguro Obanai, and Rengoku Kyōjurō.
12. Sanemi Shinazugawa
The current hashira of the wind is the older brother of Genya Shinazugawa and one of those who survives the final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji and the Upper Moons, although he loses two of his right hand fingers during his fight against the Crescent Moon, Kokushibo.
13. Tengen Uzui
The current hashira of sound and former shinobi has three wives who work as scouts, but resigns after losing a hand and an eye in battle against Crescent Moons Daki and Gyutaro.
Muzan is the main antagonist of “Kimetsu no Yaiba”. This demon lived for over a thousand years and was responsible for the origin of the other demons. He was able to manipulate his cellular structure and often disguised himself as different humans of various ages and genders.
Emu held the position of the First Waning Moon, which is as strong as the Waxing Moons. Thanks to the “Blood Demon Technique” she could manipulate a person’s sleep to kill them.
Rui held the position of the Fifth Old Moon. Before Muzan transformed him he was a sick child, furthermore he killed his parents when they tried to destroy him for being a demon.
Douma was killed by Kanao and Inosuke, but he was a nihilist demon who held the position of the Second Crescent Moon. Inosuke’s mother was a member of her cult and devoured her when she tried to escape from her. He also killed Shinobu’s older sister, Kanae.
Akaza held the position of the Third Crescent Moon and was a demon who despised the weak and offered those strong enough the opportunity to become demons. During his fight against Tanjiro and Giyu, he regains his human memories and stops regenerating himself to die.
19. Daki and Gyutarō
Daki is a demon disguised as an oiran, while Gyutaro is a demon with a horrible appearance. They share the position of the Sixth Crescent Moon and take advantage of their work in the Red Light District to attract their victims. Gyutaro is killed by Tengen and Tanjiro, and Daki, by Zenitsu and Inosuke.
