The madness of manga has conquered France and this is reflected in the results of the Culture pass. Explanations.
The weight of manga
This Thursday, November 25, Weekly Books has exclusively published the ranking of the 22 books purchased in more than 5,000 copies with Culture pass. Issued to 18-year-olds, it offers them 300 euros to spend on cultural products. Since its generalization on May 21, more than 1.5 million manga have been purchased with this device.
Of the 22 books purchased in more than 5,000 copies, no less than 15 are manga. The first 12 places are also the prerogative of books from Japan. At the top of this top composed mainly of very bankable licenses, we find One Piece with more than 300,000 copies.
The work imagined by Eiichiro Oda is followed by Demon Slayer and The attack of the Titans which peak at nearly 200,000 copies. My Hero Academia follows its competitors closely with 150,000 copies while Jujutsu Kaisen, Naruto or Berserk (whose author died last May) sold between 105,000 and 115,000 copies with the Culture pass.
Other works a little less known to the general public were also popular with young people with the Culture pass, such as Spy x Family (20,000 sales), Mashle (13,000) or even Haikyuu !! (10,000). the manwha (Korean manga) Solo Leveling made a big breakthrough with over 20,000 sales.
Hidden in this top mostly made up of manga, the annotated Civil Code (18,800 sales) and Lexicon of legal terms 2021-2022 (5,600) were also purchased by Culture pass holders. The Bridgetons Chronicle, the basis of the Netflix series of the same name, is also included in this ranking with 11,000 sales, just like the work of the videographer Léna Situations, sold in 11,600 copies.
