A busy first quarter
Between December and March, pop culture has been invited to French cinemas on many occasions. Spider-Man: No Way Home served as a leader and still sets a benchmark in terms of admissions among the films that follow. The film adaptation of Uncharted seems to be running out of steam despite the presence of Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. Early March is The Batman by Matt Reeves who arrives followed two weeks later by the animated film Jujutsu Kaisen 0. And this end of March is not to be outdone since on Wednesday March 30, two two films respectively adapted from video games and the other from a comic came out in France. It is Sonic 2: the movie and of Morbius
Sonic 2 in the top 3
And the results of the first day at the box office of these two films fell recently. So who wins between the famous blue hedgehog and Spider-Man’s enemy bat? For a first day, it’s a landslide victory for Sonic 2: the movie since it achieves more than twice as many admissions as Morbius: 155,635 admissions against 76,081. The two feature films respectively hang the first and second places in the ranking, even though the entries for the previews were not taken into account.
On this subject, the 155,635 entries made by Sonic 2 places it third in another ranking: that of the best launches in French cinema in 2022. Ahead of him? Note the presence of The Batman, indisputably first with its 257,546 entries: even without its 87,155 entries made via the preview, it still exceeds Sonic 2 since it remains at 170,391 entries. It is less clear for the dolphin, Uncharted : on the day of its launch, it achieved 186,499 admissions, including 36,710 in preview… i.e. 149,789 admissions.
