news culture DNA, Crunchyroll, Netflix, Wakanim: anime not to be missed in March 2022
While waiting for the month of April and its anthology of spring novelties, there will still be plenty to do in March for anime fans. Netflix will notably welcome two new promising adaptations, Kotaro in solo and Thermae Romae Novae, without forgetting the cinema release of Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
What’s new in March 2022
solo kotaro (Kotaro Lives Alone) is an anime based on the comic manga by Mami Tsumura, which according to Netflix is “considered by some to be Japan’s most heartwarming manga”. We follow the story of Kotaro Sato, a rather unusual boy: at four years old, he moved into an apartment on his own of a residence where children are however forbidden. There he will meet his new neighbor, Shin Karino, an unsuccessful and broke mangaka. “Both adult and childish, Kotaro through his wisdom begins to have an effect on the people around him. This is the story of a four-year-old boy determined to stay strong until the day he can live with his parentspresents Netflix.
The adaptation is entrusted to the care of the Liden Films studio, which has worked on Tokyo Revengers, Tribe Nine, Berserk (2016), Terraformars and The Chronicles of Arslân. Tomoe Makino (Woodpecker Detective’s Office) is directing and Tomomi Kimura (Kochoki) is character design. The original manga is pre-published by Shogakukan in the Japanese magazine Big Comic Superior and has not yet been published in our regions. It has already been adapted in the form of a live action series which was released in April 2021 on the Japanese channel TV Asahi.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (movie)
We move away from streaming platforms to talk about the biggest release of the month: that of movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0 in French cinemas. This is a prequel to the shōnen phenomenon created by Gege Akutami. More precisely, the film is directly adapted from the work “Tokyo School of Exorcism”, a four-chapter manga first published in 2017. It tells the story of Yuta Okkutsu, a young man haunted by the spirit of his childhood friend who died in a tragic accident. A specter like no other since the little girl takes the form of a monstrous creature that does not hesitate to attack anyone who would attack its host. It is then that a well-known character from the basic work makes his appearance: Satoru Gojo, professor at the school of exorcism in Tokyo. The latter will offer Yuta to teach him how to master occult energy to deal with what haunts him.
Like the series, the film is produced by studio MAPPA, also known for its work on Terror in Resonance, Kids on the Slope, Yuri!!! on Ice and the ultimate season of Attack on Titan. While waiting for the release of season 2, which will not take place before 2023, you can discover season 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen on Crunchyroll and Wakanim.
Thermae Romae Novae
This is another rather atypical anime that will land on Netflix in March. Thermae Romae Novae is the adaptation of the manga Thermae Romae by Mari Yamazaki. He puts on a show Lucius Modestus, architect of ancient Rome who specialized in the construction of baths, who happens to be on the downward slope due to ideas deemed worn-out. Everything changes when he finds himself sucked into a drain and lands… in a Japanese public bath in the 21st century. “Unknowing that he has traveled back in time, the architect is overwhelmed by what he discovers, down to the murals and the fruit-flavored milk. Back in ancient Rome, he enjoys what he learned on this extraordinary journey to enhance the bathing experience, and become a successful spa designer”reads the official synopsis.
It’s the Naz animation studio, at the origin of Gloomy the Naughty Grizzly, Infinite Dendrogram or even Id: Invaded which is at work here. Mari Yamazaki participates in the series herself as a composer of the soundtrack. Note that a first anime adaptation was produced in 2012 by the DLE Inc studio, for a total of 3 episodes that you can find on ADN. As to manga, it was published in France by Casterman editions and has six volumes.
