Jujutsu Kaisen has become one of the most popular anime series, and the launch of its first movie has only cemented that reputation. These days, all eyes are on wizards thanks to Yuji and Yuta, but there’s another character keeping fans hooked. Gojo is arguably the most popular character in the entire series at this point, but his voice actor really doesn’t catch the eye.
During a recent overseas interview, Yuichi Nakamura shared his views on Gojo while talking with Oricon. This is where the veteran actor said he didn’t get the hype around Gojo, but that’s for a very specific reason.
“I do not feel it. I don’t understand,” Nakamura said when asked about Gojo’s popularity in Jujutsu Kaisen. “The reason isn’t because of Gojo, but basically when I play a character, I always tell myself that I’m playing a person.”
Continuing, Nakamura explained that his view of Gojo must be different from everyone else. For him to play the wizard, he has to become Gojo, and the hero is not someone who would accept his own hype.
“I try not to think about what’s appealing about this character…I think the charm comes from a third-person perspective…and that’s extraneous information when it comes to becoming the character. I don’t pay much attention to it.”
Clearly, Nakamura is devoted to his role and his method prevents him from living up to the Gojo hype. He can enjoy all the attention from the fans, but in the end, Gojo is just someone for him when Nakamura walks into the recording booth. However, that doesn’t mean the actor doesn’t have favorites in Jujutsu Kaisen. The star has a favorite, and it might not be the one you expect.
“Actually, I’m a fan of [Kento] Nanami. I realize how hard it is to explain why a character is so cool.”
