Highly anticipated by thousands of fans, the prequel to the universe created by Gege Akutami has been visible in French theaters since this morning.
After the success of the manga and the anime, the famous exorcists of Jujutsu Kaisen are now trying their luck on the big screen, like other classics before them (dragonball Where One Room to recite nobody else but them). After the real tidal wave in Japan, the adaptation of a prequel to the saga has finally been visible in French theaters since this morning. Thought as a concentrate of action and of a deep fidelity to the basic work, the feature film is centered on Yuta, a young exorcist haunted by his deceased childhood friend.
The phenomenon finally arrives in French theaters
Since Rika’s death, Yuta has been haunted by the ghost of his friend. But Satoru Gojo, the most powerful exorcist, gets him into Tokyo’s school of exorcism and becomes his teacher. He will help the teenager to master his powers and turn his life upside down. For fans of the manga, this film allows you to find the apprentice exorcists Maki Zenin, Panda or even Toge Inumaki. Furthermore, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 allows you to dig into the past of Gojo and that of Suguru Geto, the main antagonist of the manga.
In France, the anime is distributed by Wakanim and Crunchyroll (who have just merged to offer the dream platform to fans), and the feature film is finally available in French theaters. Since its release in Japan last December, the film has dominated the box office and has so far accumulated more than 100 million dollars in revenue and almost 9 million spectators. In comparison, the latest films My Hero Academia and Detective Conan peaked at 30 and 67 million respectively.
Great beginnings marred by controversy
Always more popular in France, the world of anime therefore offers itself a superb showcase with one of the most anticipated productions of this year 2022 (which still has some great novelties in store). Being able to count on a solid community of fans in France, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 might be one of the most successful anime of all time on French soil. But the career of the feature film will however have to deal with a bad buzz, which has arisen since the previews.
Screened exclusively at Le Grand Rex cinema in Paris, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 caused a controversy after excesses during a session. Some unleashed fans indeed came to spoil the session by shouting, whistling or dancing. Some were even seen stripping naked. Scenes, unfortunately already experienced at the Grand Rex, and which obviously caused great indignation on social networks. A situation which logically pushed the cinema to react via a statement posted on Twitterpromising to be more firm in the face of such actions.
