Jujutsu Kaisen 0 animators exaggerated Gojo’s eyelashes — Kudasai

Twitter user “Jさん (@soukatsu_)” became a trend after sharing some details of interest revealed by the director Seong Hu Park about the production of the popular feature film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 during the film’s theatrical release in South Korea. Among the details, the director pointed out that he had to ask the animators to use false eyelashes so that those of the design of Satoru Gojō kept them “realistic”, that he posed himself in front of a mirror to define the positions of the characters and that he tried to make use of some action sequences from spider-manunsuccessfully.

  • Director Seong-Hu Park revealed today that he had to establish an “eyelash policy” to prevent them from going overboard with Satoru Gojo’s eyelashes and bright lips in “Jujutsu Kaisen 0”because the ideology of a certain unnamed character designer (Tadashi Hiramatsu) was too strong and Satoru Gojo’s eyelashes were still too long.
  • Also, director Seong-Hu Park used himself and a mirror as a reference when he wrote the ending scene for Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto (to visualize Gojo crouching), but his daughter saw him and thought he was drunkso he told his mother that he did dumb things when he was drunk.
  • Oh yes, apparently the director is a big fan of “Spider-Man”, so he wanted to incorporate him into Satoru Gojo and Miguel’s fight in “Jujutsu Kaisen 0”, but the rhythm of his movements never quite hit the markso he agonized for a while before discarding it.

Additionally, the director also gave advice to those hoping to work in the animation industry, especially to maintain a sense of “realism” in their work:

  • Seong-Hu Park’s words for those interested in animation: “Getting lots of drawing practice is obviously important, but I also recommend getting exposed to more things: theater, arts, museums, musicals, sports, etc. everything can be part of your designs one day“.

Synopsis of Jujutsu Kaisen 0

Yuuta Okkotsu is cursed. Ever since his childhood friend Rika died in a traffic accident, his ghost has stayed with him. But his spirit doesn’t appear as the sweet girl Yuuta once knew. Instead, he manifests as a monstrous and powerful entity that fiercely protects him. Unable to control Rika’s violent behavior, Yuuta is powerless to stop the bloodshed that follows her brutal revenge. As a result, when he is taken prisoner by the “Jujutsu” sorcerers, the secret guardians of the world, trained to combat forces like Rika, Yuuta wishes to be completely isolated so that no one else can be hurt.

However, his captor, the master sorcerer Satoru Gojou, has other plans for him: he will enter the Jujutsu High School and learn to control Rika to help people. Now, in his first year at this school, Yuuta begins to learn the arts of Jujutsu and fight evil beings. Together with his new companions Maki Zenin, an expert in Jujutsu weapons; Toge Inumaki, a sorcerer who uses his words as weapons; and Panda, a panda bear that seems to walk and talk, Yuuta begins to find his place in the world and, for once, to feel comfortable with his abilities. However, as his training progresses, Yuuta learns that the dangers of the world of Jujutsu go far beyond evil spirits.
