Demon City Shinjuku

Demon City Shinjuku is a 1988 anime film directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri and based on the eponymous work by Hideyuki Kikuchi. The story plunges us 10 years after a terrible disaster. Tokyo was destroyed by the evil forces of Rebi Rah, a man working for the Devil himself. The proud warrior Genichirou attempted to stop him, but failed in his task. A decade later, the president was kidnapped by Rebi Rah’s cursed army. It is in this context that the young Kyoya Izayoi, the son of the fallen Genichirou, makes his appearance. A devastating battle then begins in the middle of Shinjuku prefecture against a backdrop of revenge.

Demon Slayer

We continue on our demonic momentum with one of the flagship anime of the moment: Demon Slayer. The project is led mainly by Haruo Sotozaki, from the Ufotable studio. The Japanese company offers us the crème de la crème of animation to offer us an adaptation of Koyoharu Gotouge’s high-end manga. Demon Slayer is a Shonen, which looks back on the life of Tanjiro Kamado, a young boy living a peaceful existence in the snowy mountains of Japan, alongside his family. One day, on returning home, he finds his family massacred. Only her little sister, Nezuko, seems to have survived. However, she sees herself metamorphosed into a demon. Then begins for Tanjiro a long journey on the path of the Demon Slayers with the sole aim of saving Nezuko.

Devil’s Line

We leave the demons and we go to meet the nocturnal creatures that are the vampires! Devil’s Line is an anime adaptation released in 2018, of the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Ryo Hanada. The series tells us about the life of Tsukasa, a young student from Tokyo who sees her life turned upside down. One day, while walking quietly, Tsukasa is attacked by a vampire. The young girl is saved by Anzai, a half-vampire, half-human policeman who hunts out-of-control vampiric beings. The two individuals will gradually grow closer, as Anzai must overcome his most primal vampire instincts.

Dororo to Hyakkimaru

We return to the sources of Japanese animation via the late Mushi Production studio. Osamu Tzuka’s old studio offered us an adaptation of Dororo by the same creator, in 1969. It’s under the name of Dororo to Hyakkimaru that this adaptation of 26 episodes is born. The anime takes place during the Sengoku era (1477-1573). We follow the life of Hyakkimaru, a young man whose 48 parts of his body have been offered to demons. Indeed, his father, Lord Daigo, agreed to trade his son’s body in exchange for peace in his region. Hyakkimaru is born deformed and abandoned by his family. One fine day, the young man meets the thief Dororo, who will change the course of his existence.
