A priori, Yuji would have become an exorcist by chance. However, some fans are convinced that everything would have been meticulously prepared.

Next to chain saw man and Spy x Family, Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the most popular series among fans of manga and Japanese animation. Published since 2018, the series, created by Gege Akutami, has already benefited from a first animated season and a feature film, both produced by the very famous studio MAPPA. Rumors are also circulating saying that season 2 of the anime will be released in the winter of 2023. In this dark fantasy manga, we follow Yuji Itadori, a young high school student, who by chance becomes the receptacle of Ryomen Sukuna, the King Plagues, those creatures created from the negative emotions of human beings.

And it is precisely this notion of “by chance” that has been talked about lately. Indeed, since the beginning of the story, it is considered that Yuji became the receptacle of Sukuna by pure chance, or by the force of things depending on the point of view from which one places oneself. If you remember correctly the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji met Megumi while two of his classmates were having an exorcism party. An evening during which they lost all control and fell prey to many plagues. Saved by Megumi, Itadori had swallowed one of Sukuna’s 20 fingers in order to protect his friends and Megumi. However, a theory circulates among the fans. According to them, these events were simply orchestrated in order to push Yuji to become Sukuna’s receptacle.. What would be at the origin of this theory would be chapter 143, available in volume 17, where, in a flashback, Yuji remembers his mother. The latter has the same forehead scar as Suguru Geto, Kenjaku’s ship.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Did Kenjaku make sure that Yuji became Sukuna’s vessel?

Kenjaku possessed Yuji’s mother, becoming the young man’s parent.

We no longer present Kenjaku, the current antagonist of Jujutsu Kaisenbut also one of the most powerful characters from the Serie. A millennial former exorcist, he aspires to evolve humanity via occult energy by creating a new golden age of exorcism in the image of the Heian era. Over the centuries, Kenjaku has possessed many humans like Noritoshi Kamo, the one considered in Jujutsu Kaisen as the worst exorcist in history. From what we know, all its receptacles have the same thing in common: a forehead scar and stitch marks, remains of a brain transplant. But what does Yuji have to do with it?

Well, it’s quite simple. At the beginning of the story, Yuji explains that he was raised by his grandfather and has few memories of his parents. Yet, in chapter 143, he seems to be “dreaming” of a few times when he was still a baby. We can see his father arguing with his grandfather, the latter explaining that his mother is dead. But a woman, who calls him “step-dad” suddenly appears. And the latter has the exact same scar as the victims of Kenjaku. If we take into account the words of the grandfather, then it becomes possible that Kenjaku took possession of Yuji’s mother’s body and somehow ensured that he became the Sukuna receptacle.

And if Yuji was finally the perfect receptacle for Sukuna?

And when you have these elements in mind, many questions then arise. Because yes, if you really think about the situation, it becomes strange that, from the start of Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji was also good at mastering Sukuna. He was a 15 year old boy. He knew absolutely nothing about the world of exorcism, black energy and plagues. And yet, he managed to subdue the King of Plagues quickly. But if we assume that Yuji is said to be a human/bane hybrid childwith Kenjaku as a parent, things immediately make a lot more sense.

For the time being, we have very few elements concerning the parents, or even the family of Yuji. But as for the young adolescent, certain elements support the hypothesis of his hybrid side. Remember, in the early chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen, many high school sports clubs seek to recruit Yuji due to his outstanding abilities. Physical abilities that certainly allow him to resist Sukuna’s dark energy.

Did Kenjaku have planned everything from the start?

Jujutsu Kaisen

Once again, Jujutsu Kaisen proves to us that the antagonists are several steps ahead.

We are not going to lie to each other. Kenjaku is ready to do anything to see his ideal society come to fruition. Indeed, when he possessed Noritoshi Kamo, Kenjaku used a woman capable of giving birth to plagues. During the many experiments carried out on his prisoner, Kenjaku managed, following nine abortions, to create the Fetuses of the Nine Phases. So it wouldn’t be surprising if Yuji was, in Kenjaku’s eyes, a pawn in his plan.

Of course, no one, at least until proven otherwise, forced Yuji to swallow Sukuna’s first finger in an attempt to save her from Megumi. But it seems obvious that Kenjaku could have totally, somehow, orchestrated the whole situation and therefore placed Yuji in the right place at the right time. A way for him to ensure that the young man becomes the receptacle of Sukuna and that the latter does not come back to life and help him in the accomplishment of his plan.. Once more, Jujutsu Kaisen proves to us that its antagonists are always one step ahead of the protagonists, and it will be interesting to see how things evolve for our exorcists. Especially since Gojo Satoru is still sealed.
