Netflix unveils the cast of the live adaptation of “One Piece”

The adaptation of the famous manga by Eiichiro Oda is becoming clearer. We now know the identity of the actors of the “Mugiwaras”, the crew of Luffy’s Straw Hat.

Netflix unveiled this Tuesday the identity of the five actors chosen to play the “Mugiwaras”, the crew of Luffy’s Straw Hat, the heroes of the live adaptation of One Piece, popular manga by Eiichiro Oda whose hundredth volume comes out in early December in France.

Mexican actor Iñaki Godoy will play the hero, Monkey D. Luffy. Zoro, outstanding warrior and loyal sidekick of Luffy, will be played by Japanese actor Mackenyu, son of legend Sonny Chiba, seen in Pacific Rim: Uprising. The role of Nami, the navigator, went to Emily Rudd while that of Usopp, the endearing “king of the snipers”, went to Jacob Romero Gibson. Taz Skylar finally completes the crew by taking on the role of Sanji, the mad cook in love with Nomi.

A first season of ten episodes is planned. Steven Maeda, who previously worked on the series X-Files, The experts and Lost, is the showrunner, but also the screenwriter and the producer of this adaptation ambition, which is expected at the turn by fans of the manga.

No release date

We still do not know the release date of this series, but Eiichiro Oda wants to be confident and ask his fans to take their troubles patiently: “It will take a little while before the series is ready, but we will continue to do our best to make a series entertaining for everyone!”

First published in 1997, One Piece recounts the incredible adventures of Luffy, a young man who acquired the properties of rubber after swallowing a devil’s fruit. With his crew, he seeks to get their hands on Gol D. Roger’s treasure, the “One Piece”, to become the next pirate king. The manga, still popular after twenty-four years, this year reached the 1,000th chapter published.
