What are the films and series not to be missed this weekend on the streaming platform?

the pale blue eye

Available on Netflix – Duration: 2h10

What does it talk about ? A retired commissionaire recruits West Point cadet Edgar Allan Poe to help solve a gruesome murder at the United States Military Academy.

Why do you have to watch it? After directing some excellent films like The Blazes of Wrath and HostileScott Cooper returns hand in hand with Christian Bale, his favorite actor, for this snowy thriller whose plot takes place in a 19th century American military school. Between murdered students and an investigator with a troubled past, this adaptation of the novel by Louis Bayard will delight lovers of mystery and gothic atmosphere.

In the midst of a string of supporting roles played by big names like Gillian Anderson or Robert Duvall, we particularly salute a Harry Melling in top form in the skin of a young Edgar Allan Poe not yet famous.

Our criticism of The Pale Blue Eye

honey boy

Available from January 7 – Duration: 1h35

“Are you going to watch my movie?!”

What does it talk about ? An addiction-stricken movie star grapples with memories of a childhood shaped by his unstable father, an ex-rodeo clown.

Why do you have to watch it? Because if you like Shia LaBeouf or at least the character and his career intrigue you, honey boy is a biopic centered on him. And if that’s not enough to get you started on the movie (we can understand), the feature film is rich in emotion to guarantee an invested spectator during the viewing.

It is also fun to see the actor in the center of the portrait playing his fatherwith whom he had a childhood and more generally a complicated relationship. The rest of the cast is also to be saluted, Noah Jupe in small Shia and Lucas Hedges stand alongside Martin Starr, Clifton Collins Jr. and Natasha Lyonne. The sensitive staging tinged with Alma Har’el’s naturalism, captures the performances of its brilliantly directed cast.

vinland saga – season 2

Available from January 9 – Duration: 25 episodes of 25 minutes

Vinland Saga: Pictures“Life is hard…”

What does it talk about ? After attempting to kill Canute, Thorfinn is sold as a slave to a certain Ketil. In the latter’s farm, he meets and befriends Einar, another slave. Thorfinn, with the support of a few people, will slowly rebuild himself and walk the path of redemption.

Why do you have to watch it? Because the series on the vikings follow one another, and one is clearly above the lot, and it is about the anime Vinland Saga (and no, it’s not vikings). The first season was excellent, the sequel is now coming to walk in the wake of the previous one and offer a new slap to the viewer.

Wit Studio, the little hands behind the first three seasons of The attack of the Titans, Ranking of Kings or lately Spy X Family are still there, just like Yutaka Yamada is back to the soundtrack. Finally, the studio is still based on the character design and the scenario of Makoto Yukimura’s manga so we don’t worry too much about the quality of this next epic epic.

vikings valhalla – season 2

Available from January 12 – Duration: 8 episodes of 60 minutes

What does it talk about ? Enemies old and new await Freydis, Leif and Harald as they travel the world in search of power and new territories to conquer.

Why do you have to watch it? If you are already a big fan of the series vikingsthat you devoured its 6 seasons and that you also followed with interest the thrilling adventures (and that’s the word) of Leif, Freydis and Harald during season 1 of Vikings Valhallayou will no doubt be curious to know the fate of the three protagonists in this season 2.

Even if the historical reality is far from being respected by the franchise, the fact of exploiting illustrious figures of Viking folklore (starting with the children of Erik the red, Leif and Freydis) will be able to seduce those who would like to discover the story supervised by Jeb Stuart, fed on devious plots and outbursts of violence (no it’s not Game Of Thrones).
