The supply of manga and anime in Latin America is increasingly wide. Unlike a few years ago, it is now easier to find legal material in many stores. The effort to integrate this content into different streaming platforms is also noticeable. One of the most popular services is Crunchyroll, which in addition to having an interesting catalog, offers news with subtitles and, in some cases, with dubbing in different languages, including Latin Spanish.
This has given us access to popular series such as Shingeki no Kyojin and Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi o Surubut also to jewels that go somewhat unnoticed like Osama Ranking. The same happens with jujutsu kaisena shonen that shines for its design, action scenes and charismatic characters.
The success of jujutsu kaisen transcended the monochrome pages and hit the big screen in Japan at the end of 2021 to join the success of other anime references such as Kimetsu no Yaiba. This time, it’s the turn of Jujutsu Kaisen 0a story that serves as a prequel to the main line and goes its own way without depending on the original protagonists.
Before we start, let me tell you that you don’t need to watch the anime or read the manga to enjoy the movie, but it’s always better to acknowledge the references and characters for a more complete experience. After clearing this up, I’d like to give you some context of what you’ll see on screen. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 She focuses her attention on Yuta Okkotsu, a pale, haggard young man plagued by a curse born of love and loss. Everything seems to indicate that his condition will follow him to the grave and, although he apparently keeps him safe, this situation makes him a very dangerous being. This set of characteristics attracts Satoru Gojou, a powerful sorcerer who recruits him from the Tokyo Metropolitan High School for Sorcery, who specializes in improving his students’ abilities and combating the curses that plague the world. Yuta goes to study there, where he meets his classmates Maki Zenin, Panda and Toge Inumaki, old acquaintances of ours who now play a central role in the story. They will help him understand his curse and use it to his advantage as he discovers his origin. At the same time, Yuta has to be careful because “someone else” realizes his potential.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 It has a different development from the series, especially when it begins without giving a context of the world in which it occurs. Here the important thing is to meet Yuta Okkotsu and see his evolution during the almost 2-hour film. His personality is completely opposite to that of Yuji Itadori, the protagonist of the original series. This gives him a different air, as he puts aside optimism and strength, and prioritizes a depressed sorcerer full of doubts and existential conflicts, but with great hidden potential that holds the curse of him.
“It’s interesting how the stories come together despite being separate”
The beginning is somewhat slow because the film takes its time to introduce Yuta’s tragic story, but also for the character to begin to understand his new reality. On this path he will not be alone, and what a help it is the presence of Satoru Gojo to guide the young apprentice as he knows his limits. Gojo is the support for the story to stand firm and also to get closer to the jujutsu kaisen original. It is interesting to see the way the stories come together despite being separate with characters like Suguru Geto and also to notice the love-hate relationship between Yuta and Rika, the monstrous being that accompanies him at all times.
On the visual part there are no complaints, on the contrary: the animation quality is sublime and the battles are dynamic. A whole show full of invocations, violence and fast attacks worthy of a choreography with lots of camera movements. Something that characterizes jujutsu kaisen is that it is usually very graphic, which includes liters and liters of blood as well as dismemberment, among other signs of pain and agony. All of this is still present, so don’t worry about censorship.
“It’s nice that the Mappa studio maintains a high level of quality and shows it off on the big screen”
One of the strengths of this production is precisely its visual quality and the strokes that bring the characters to life. It’s nice that the Mappa studio maintains a high level of quality and shows it off in a big way on the big screen. In short, it is a film that is worth seeing in theaters to let yourself be enveloped by the combination of impressive audio and visuals.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 It is enjoyed from beginning to end and it takes a risk by leaving aside its most popular faces. If you get a chance, check it out before it’s released. Even if it is your first approach to jujutsu kaisen, it is worth living this experience in the cinema. In case you are already a fan, you will have an added value because you know the context and you will understand the references. You may miss Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara kugisaki, but you’ll get another perspective on this world full of curses and negative energy. Remember that you can enjoy the movie in its original language with subtitles or in Latin Spanish. I also recommend that you stay until the end to see the short post-credits scene.
