The story of Jujutsu Kaisen follows Yuji Itadori, a young student who possesses extraordinary physical strength and who is part of the Occult Research Club of his institute. One day, in order to save his clubmates from the attack of dangerous Curses, he eats Ryômen Sukuna’s finger, integrating his Curse into his own soul and becoming its vessel.

Although he shares a body with Sukuma, Yuji is able to control him, so he is admitted to the Tokyo Technical School of Magic, an organization that fights against Curses.

However, being possessed by a Curse, Yuji is sentenced to death so he can kill Sukuna’s shard and reduce its power. However, his death sentence will be postponed until Yuji consumes all of Sukuna’s fingers, allowing them to kill Sukuna once and for all.

For its part, the plot of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is located a couple of years before the original series and tells the story of Yuta Okkotsu (character first mentioned in episode 6 of the anime), a shy high school student who is cursed by Rika, a friend from his childhood..

Although he chose to be executed so as not to make others suffer with his Curse, Gojo Satoru (Yuji Itadori’s future teacher) instead decides to enroll Yuta in the Tokyo Academy of Magic under his tutelage.

However, the evil curse user Suguru Geto, who was expelled from the sorcery academy for murdering innocents, appears before Yuta and the rest. Geto aspires to create an exclusive paradise for sorcerers and decides to unleash thousands of curses on Shinjuku and Kyoto to exterminate all non-sorcerers.. Will Yuta be able to stop Geto?

Although we have already mentioned it before, there is no doubt that one of the highlights of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is how well it explains the entire manganime universe and the history of its main characters for those viewers who have not seen the anime seriessomething that is not very common in this type of productions.

Another detail to highlight is the fluidity of its plot, which mixes intrigue, action and good humor very well (with the occasional moment of terror) throughout its 105-minute run.

All this with stunning animation quality by MAPPA and TOHO Animation under the direction of Sunghoo Parkwhose work we have already seen both in the Jujutsu Kaisen series and in The God of High School.

Unlike other anime films, in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 none of its main characters are wasted and they all have their moment of insight on screen, showing in detail their combat skills in some of the most impressive fights, something that stands out. especially during the last third of the tape.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0

Little can be reproached to Jujutsu Kaisen 0, because the film never gets boring and its good rhythm and quality of animation makes us stay glued to the screen from start to finish. Maybe it would be interesting to keep up with the manga or anime to catch some minor details of the movie, but nothing really important.

And in case you were wondering, yes, Jujutsu Kaisen has a post credits scene that will be important for the next season of the anime (although those who are more committed to Akutami’s work will know where the shots are going).

Although a release date has not yet been confirmed, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is expected to land by Fall 2023. Plenty of time to catch up on the series if you loved the movie and are hungry for more. A small spoiler: You will want more!
