Bad news for manga fans. Since January 1, their price has increased. A large number of publishers have revised their prices upwards. Ki-oon, Kurokawa, Glénat, Pika, Ototo, Taifu, Mangetsu… this phenomenon affects the best-known publishing houses as well as the smallest ones. An increase that will not, however, directly benefit publishers. This unprecedented increase is indeed a consequence of the shortage of paper and the rise in the price of raw materials.
An increase of 30 cents to 2 euros
Faced with this situation, many houses have therefore been forced to raise their prices. This increase has nevertheless been contained to allow teenagers, the main fans of the genre, to be able to continue to buy their favorite manga. On average, the increase should be between 30 cents and 2 euros. At Glénat, the best-sellers One Piece, tokyo revenge, Berserk, Bleach, Dr Stone or dragonball went from 6.90 to 6.99 euros. Pika editions (Fairy Tail, The attack of the Titans), Kurokawa (Spy x Family, One-Punch Man) and Mangetsu (Ao Ashi), will offer their flagship manga at 7.20 euros. On the side of Ki-oon, My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen will be offered at 6.95 euros instead of 6.60 for the first and €6.90 for the second. At Taifu, prices increase by 36 cents. Whisper Me a Love Song or Citrus thus increase to €8.35 and Given Where Megumi & Tsugumi at €9.35.
The book industry is facing a substantial increase in production costs, in particular due to a shortage of paper. Unfortunately, we are no exception, and this leads us today to review the price of our manga, for the first time in years! pic.twitter.com/CjeWvp7XZQ
