For those who haven’t seen the first season, tokyo revenge tells us the story of Takemichi Hanagaki, a 26-year-old young man who feels like he’s already messed up his life. Subsisting on odd jobs, the character finds himself all the more disturbed when he learns that Hinata Tachibana, his former college girlfriend (and the only one he has had in his life), has died. He will then learn that she was the collateral victim of a conflict involving a famous gang, the Tokyo Manji-kai.. The next day, Takemichi is also the victim of an accident on his way home from work, being pushed off the subway platform by someone. And as he’s about to be rammed, he finds himself inexplicably thrown back 12 years, when he was still in college, and especially when he was still with Hinata. Takemichi will then make the decision to do everything to save Hinata, and in doing so, he will find himself inexorably embroiled in the plots brewing around the Tokyo Manji-kai.
Created by Ken Wakui, one of the undisputed masters of furyo manga in Japanthe mangaka brilliantly manages to mix genres, giving both a description of the universe of young Japanese being seen as scum by society, but also by building a complex scenario in which we find time travel, thriller and brawl. One of the strengths of the work is also largely based on its characters, each being more charismatic than the other.
And moreover, speaking of charisma in tokyo revengewe can’t help thinking about Ken Ryuguji, aka Drakenprobably one of the most popular characters in the series. It turns out that the voice actor who lent him his voice in the first season, Suzuki Tatsuhisa, was removed from the project following a scandal.. The character will now be embodied by Masaya Fukunishi, who has already been seen in several anime such as Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari, Blue Period or Pop Team Epic.
