Disney announced on Wednesday that the second season of Tokyo Revengers will be available on the Disney+ platform when it finally arrives in January. The news was announced during Disney’s content showcase for the Asia-Pacific region. It is part of the expanded partnership between Japanese publisher Kodansha and Disney+, which provides for the licensing of anime adaptations of manga published by Kodansha.
Although a January air date for the Tokyo Revengers anime sequel has been announced, no specific air date has yet been revealed.
The next arc will see a cast change, as Tatsuhisa Suzuki will no longer play the role of Ken “Draken” Ryūgūji. The replacement has yet to be revealed; however, additions to the Tokyo Revengers cast include Mikako Komatsu (Maki Zenin, JUJUTSU KAISEN) and Tomokazu Sugita (Gintoki Sakata, Gintama) as Yuzuha and Taiju Shiba respectively. The other main cast members are expected to return to voice their characters in the upcoming second season.
The Tokyo Revengers anime series is based on the manga of the same name created by Ken Wakui, originally serialized in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 2017. Tokyo Revengers saw its 30th and final compiled volume on November 17, one day after the end of its serialization. The author anticipates a new arc for the manga to be revealed somewhere in November 2023, followed by a spin-off manga to be serialized in the same magazine as the parent series.
The first season of Tokyo Revengers first aired in April 2021, for 24 episodes, and Crunchyroll streamed it in Japan. A live-action film was released in July 2021, quickly becoming the first live-action film in Japan. A sequel to the Tokyo Revengers live-action movie will be released in two parts in Spring and Summer 2023.
