At the Tokyo Revengers – Tokyo Manjikai Tachikawa Touring special event, production of a second season of Tokyo Revengers was officially announced. The next arc titled “Christmas Showdown” (Seiya Kessen) will adapt the confrontation between the Toman and the Black Dragons from the original manga by Ken Wakui.
Production will again be handled by Liden Films (Blade of the Immortal). Koichi Hatsumi (Gangsta.) Returning as director; Yasuyuki Muto (Deadman Wonderland) as screenwriter; Kenichi Ohnuki (Golden Kamuy) and Keiko Ōta (Ace Attorney) as character designers; and Hiroaki Tsutsumi (Jujutsu Kaisen) as a composer. The Japanese voice cast will again be led by Yūki Shin as Takemichi Hanagaki.
The Tokyo Revengers team released a promotional video to commemorate the announcement of the second season.
Tokyo Revengers began serialization in the pages of Weekly Shōnen Magazine in March 2018, and Kodansha editors have compiled the story into 24 volumes to date. The print has over 40 million copies in circulation and received the Best Shōnen award at the 44th Kodansha Manga Awards. Ken Wakui’s work entered its final arc in early June.
Pony Canyon provides the following synopsis for Tokyo Revergers:
“Takemichi Hanagaki is a worker who has reached the bottom of his life. He then discovers that the only girlfriend he ever had, in his high school years, the young Hinata Tachibana, was killed by the Tokyo Manji gang. The day he hears the news of his death, he is at the station when someone pushes him on the rails. He closes his eyes thinking he’s about to die, but when he opens them, not knowing how, he’s gone back 12 years. From now on, he will be able to relive those days which he considered to be the best of his life and Takemichi will try to take revenge for his life ”.
It’s worth mentioning that at the event it was revealed that the franchise will also inspire mobile gaming for iOS and Android. A website with a countdown has been launched for such a project.
