US box office: Black Panther 2 defeats the competition, Black Adam loses

Black Panther 2 shakes up the established order with his arrival and overthrows black adam, Ticket to Paradise takes it easy far from the superheroic face to face.

The arrival of Wakanda at the top of the box office was to be expected. black adam Worn out for a few weeks, it was no match for the novelty of Marvel, moreover when this sequel had the heavy task of honoring Chadwick Boseman with dignity. A tribute thanks to which each spectator was able to meditate with the promise of a solemn, but familiar entertainment at the end of the day.

And in the end that’s all there was the honorable Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Inevitably, the pleasant surprise of the MCU has therefore succeeded in seducing the public. Although predictions had predicted a $175 million weekend, Ryan Coogler’s second superhero movie would rather be around 180 million. This is less than the first movie which had started at 200 million and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and its launch at 187 million last May. But it’s more than the billionaire Captain America: Civil War (179 million), in other words, it’s a very good launch.

The bad black adam therefore lost the duel. If he was necessarily at a disadvantage with already several weeks on the bill, we could expect more from the next opponent of Superman. This weekend, the feature film would have brought in $ 8.6 million, enough to increase its total at 151 million… therefore less than Black Panther 2 after his first week. It would still be better than Shazam! which ended up on its side at 140 million dollars. That’s a small consolation.

But if the two mastodons mentioned above drove at full speed, a production followed them on a pedal boat. It’s an understatement to say, but the missed opportunity Ticket to Paradise certainly did not perform as well as a Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! (the director’s previous feat), but always remained in the top 3 during its four weeks of operation. The romantic comedy would raise an additional $6 million and can potentially hope to end its run at 60 million.

there’s a smile in the air

For those who are allergic to the nian-nian of romantic comedies, a family comedy is placed right behind to avoid redness and swelling. Enzo, the crocodile would hit over $3 million this weekend and would therefore have passed the 40 million mark. What’s more, the reptile live action in CGI can, a priori, boast of finding the top 5 and having the lightest drop in the top 20 with only -5%. Not bad Enzonot bad…

But if there is something that has nothing more to prove, it is the good surprise Smile. Horror production reportedly grossing over $2 million this weekend for a total that would be 103 million. So terror can go away with a smile. An astonishing journey for Parker Finn’s first attempt who, still in the top 5 after seven weeks, would have just exceeded Annabel 2 and its 102 million dollars in all.

Who will be the next to be dethroned?

As for the top 10, a few surprises: The Banshees of Inisherin at first would display the second lightest drop in attendance in the top 20 with -17.4% for 1.7 million for its fourth week. Martin McDonagh’s latest attempt presents itself as less accessible and mainstream than 3 Billboards – The Revenge Billboards and its 54.5 million. Consequently, we shall consider ourselves fortunate that it surpasses Kisses from Bruges and its 7.8 million, maybe even in a few weeks 7 Psychopaths and its almost 15 million… even if it looks complicated.

In contrast, plummeting level, we find One Piece Movie: Red with -84.5% attendance with a total of 12.7 million dollars. A big failure knowing that at the same stage Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero had exceeded 30 million and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 the 28 million. However, it is already doing better than My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ mission and its final 12 million. And despite this spectacular fall, it is all the same the best performance of Luffy and his crew to date on American soil.

The Fabelmans: photo, Paul Dano, Michelle Williams, Seth RogenThe reactions of the happy few who have seen the new Spielberg

Outside the top 10, the excellent The Fabelmans would tear the second best average per copy of the week with $40,000heeling Black Panther 2 (40,946). The new Spielberg hums with aftersun who, for his part, would increase its attendance by 20% (with double the number of rooms compared to last week). On the other hand, all is not rosy and the sympathetic Halloween Ends would accuse the largest drop in attendance over the weekend with -89.8% for a total raised so far of 64 million. What automatically announce it as the least successful opus of the last trilogy.

No doubt that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever took pride of place this weekend and will continue to dominate the American box office for a few more weeks. The next outings on American soil go in this direction since only She Said and The menu could claim to be in the top 10. Case to follow.
