news culture With a rating of 98%, this film released in theaters in 2022 dominates Avatar 2 and The Batman
Now that we are coming to the twilight of the year 2022, it is time to take stock in order to establish the lists of the best games but also the best films of the year. For this last category, we went to Rotten Tomatoes to check who sits on the top step of the podium in the films we cover on JV. And against all odds, it’s neither Avatar 2 nor The Batman.
The top of the top?
In order to compile this list, we focused on genres covered on JV (so there’s no romantic comedy around here) as well as works that had more than 50 reviews. That’s why we don’t consider One Piece Film Red, which has a 94% rating for only 32 reviews. The averages were consulted on 16/12/2022.

A Japanese animated film in the stars
Surprise, the most popular film this year according to Rotten Tomatos is Jujutsu Kaisen 0 with its impressive score of 98% based on 51 reviews. In this anime directed by Park Seong-hu, Rika Orimoto comes to haunt her friend Yuta Okkotsu after he loses his life in an accident. Having become inseparable by force of circumstance, the duo is welcomed into the school of a powerful exorcist in Tokyo. However, events will soon take a disturbing turn.
In this feature film released after the first season of the series, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 adapts a one shot by the same author which serves as a prequel. It is therefore quite possible to see it even if we do not know much about the universe of the saga. Fans will in any case be delighted to discover the youth of one of the main protagonists of the series. For those who do not know, Jujutsu Kaisen speaks of plagues caused by piles of negative feelings. It is about relics, exorcists and demons. Are you tempted? The first season is available on Crunchyroll.
Licenses in the spotlight
In the top of this year 2022 is also Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero with an average of 93% (out of 55 reviews). Despite his powers, the great and valiant Son Goku failed to dislodge Yuta Okkotsu in the hearts of anime movie enthusiasts. Still at the top of the ranking, we find The Batman by Matt Reeves with Robert Pattinson, enjoying a score of 85% (out of 503 reviews). Critics had hailed this production by making it exceed by a short head the feature films orchestrated by Tim Burton.
For its part, Avatar 2 is currently at 78% (out of more than 341 reviews). The work directed by James Cameron, which would have had a budget oscillating around 350 million dollars, has the same criticisms as the first part released in 2009, namely an extremely beautiful film that is a little too classic in its writing. With two animated films – or even three if we take One Piece Film Red into account – and the presence of Batman as Avatar in the top, this year 2022 definitely puts licenses in the spotlight.
