‘Boku No Hero Academia’ is the original name of ‘My Hero Academia‘, the Japan’s most famous anime that has gone from just being on screens to go viral on social media. Originally, the manga was created by Kohei Horikoshiwhere tells the story of Izuku Midoriyaa young man Japanese ordinary who aspires to study at the Academy of Heroes to master the superpowers inherited by All Might.
The anime It was released in 2016 and it has been such a hit japanese series which is currently in its third season. Although this has not yet reached the platforms, the rest can be seen in Netflix. The series shows a very particular value of the Japanese culture and it is that “sacrifice is above talent”; also the series makes the problem of bullying visible and has some references towards the universe of western superheroes like those of Marvel.
Izukuwhose name translates to ‘after a long season’ in the series is also nicknamed ‘Deku‘, which means ‘puppet’ is shown to be an anime Japanese with many landscapes and typical places of the country, as well as that this character has a predilection for a special dish of all Japanese cuisine.
What is ‘Deku’s’ favorite food in My Hero Academia?
As I previously anticipated, in the series it is shown that the protagonist has a predilection for a typical Japanese dish that is katsudon, which consists of putting a generous base of rice on a plate on top of which a breaded pork chop is placed, scrambled egg and some condiments. Although there are variants that show these proteins of animal origin on ramen.
This dish originated in a historical moment when Japan was opening up to the West and incorporating some of its influences even in the culinary aspect, where yoshoku food emerged, that is, Japanese food inspired by Western dishes and techniques. One of them was frying food in oil and it was at the Rengatei restaurant in Tokyo in 1899, where the first version of katsudon was made with breaded pork.
Although this dish is not that difficult to prepare, what is complicated is getting the ingredients such as the dashi broth that is made with kombu seaweed and dehydrated bonito flakes. Likewise, it is not such a cheap recipe in our country ‘because it requires pork and sake, which are not very cheap elements, although they are easier to obtain in supermarkets.
