The expansion of Funimation in Latin American territory it goes beyond the market of streaming. For the first time, the American company will venture into the distribution of Japanese animated films in cinemas in the region with My Hero Academia: World Mission of Heroes (Boku no Hero Academia THE MOVIE World Heroes’ Mission), the third film installment in the successful franchise based on the manga by Kōhei Horikoshi.

The franchise My Hero Academia
Kōhei Horikoshi first explored the concept of a super powerful society through the one-shot titled My Hero in the winter edition of Akamaru Jump in 2008. It was until July 2014 when the Shūeisha publishing house decided to formally serialize a saga inspired by said universe under the name My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia). The manga published in the pages of the magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump it has been compiled in 32 volumes to date.
History presents us with a world where 80% of the population has powers and, of course, there are those who decide to use these abilities for good or for evil. Our protagonist Izuku Midoriya always dreamed of becoming a hero; sadly, Midoriya was born without any “gifts”. The story of “Deku” takes an unexpected turn when he manages to attract the attention of All Might, Hero No. 1, who has a plan to help the young man enter the UA Academy, a school specialized in the professionalization of future superheroes.
The work has inspired multiple spin-offs in the world of manga, light novels, video games and, of course, a successful anime adaptation consisting of five seasons aired since spring 2016, five OVAs and two previous feature films: My Hero Academia: Two Heroes (2018) and My Hero Academia -Heroes: Rising- (2019).

What is it about?
My Hero Academia: World Mission of Heroes presents us with an original story set between the events of the Endeavor Agency arcs and the Paranormal Liberation War seen in the fifth season of the anime.
Funimation provides the following movie synopsis:
“In My Hero Academia: World Mission of Heroes, UA Academy students Izuku Midoriya, Shoto Todoroki and Katsuki Bakugo face the greatest crisis in the history of My Hero Academia, With only two hours to save the world! During an internship at the Pro Hero Endeavor Agency Number one, Deku and his new friend Rody find that they are suddenly wanted across the country for a crime they did not commit. Will Deku and his friends be able to stop Humarise’s global plan to eliminate all the Gifts? “
The 104-minute long film was released on August 6 in theaters in Japan. The film surpassed the box office of its predecessors to become the highest-grossing film installment in the franchise.

Latin cast and production team
The production was once again in charge of the studio Bones (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood), with the return of the main members of the staff who have worked on all the previous projects of the franchise: the director Kenji Nagasaki, the screenwriter Yousuke Kuroda, the character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi and the composer Yuki Hayashi. Kōhei Horikoshi supervised the plot and provided the designs for the new characters.
Asian Kung-Fu Generation performed the title track “Empathy” as well as the song “Flowers” which is also part of the soundtrack of the movie.
The Japanese voice cast was led by Daiki Yamashita (Izuku Midoriya), Nobuhiko Okamoto (Katsuki Bakugō), Yuuki Kaji (Shōto Todoroki), Ryō Yoshizawa (Rody Soul), and Kazuya Nakai (Flect Turn). Meanwhile, the dubbing in Latin Spanish will be the same as the version of The Kitchen of Miami for the anime series on Funimation; and not the one we heard in the two previous tapes distributed in the region by Konnichiwa Festival.

Release date
Funimation announced that My Hero Academia: World Mission of Heroes will be released on January 6, 2022 in theaters of Mexico and Brazil; with subtitled and dubbed versions in Latin Spanish and Portuguese, respectively. Release dates for other Latin American countries will be announced shortly.
The presale start the Tuesday, December 14, 2021.
