Boruto: Naruto Next Generations saw Kawaki making sure he kept a long-standing promise with Boruto in the final moments of the series’ newest chapter! As Boruto and Kawaki continued to fight Code outside of Hidden Leaf Village, the stakes rose dramatically when Naruto and Shikamaru also found themselves in the center of danger. This led to Boruto using his own brand Karma power and thus Momoshiki Otsutsuki was allowed to regain control of his body, but Kawaki wanted to put an end to this with his new Karma power by any means necessary.
The previous chapter saw Kawaki release a brand new brand of Karma that he had planted on him by Amado, and the final chapter of the series explores the reasons why he allowed such a thing to happen. For Kawaki, it’s a necessary sacrifice to save his new father and brother. At the same time, Kawaki is willing to do whatever it takes to save Boruto from himself, and as he promised, he does so by killing Boruto at the end of the chapter.
Chapter 66 of the series reveals the new types of abilities Kawaki is able to use with his Karma power, but he attacks the Momoshiki-possessed Boruto with the full range of his powers. Although Naruto asks Kawaki to back down, Kawaki refuses and continues forward with the intention of killing Boruto. When Boruto is briefly able to regain control of his body, Kawaki reminds him of the promise they made to each other that when the time comes, he will do whatever he can to make sure to stop him.
Boruto therefore agrees, and Kawaki uses his power to punch Boruto through the chest and leaves a gaping hole in his body. It looks like Boruto is indeed dead by the end of the chapter, and while that’s naturally the worst-case scenario for their father, it’s something Boruto and Kawaki agreed to beforehand, knowing one of them could have Be the most dangerous being in the Hidden Leaf Village at all times. But now it remains to be seen whether or not there was some kind of hidden idea behind this plan.
