naruto has bid farewell to some of its biggest characters over the years, and its sequel is beginning to find its own line between life and death. Since Boruto: Naruto Next Generations started, the show put its heroes in danger on a regular basis, but only a few ninjas actually died. But for those who follow the anime, well, they know everything changed this week.
Boruto came out with its final episode the other day, and that’s when fans got an answer to a terrible cliffhanger. The show followed Kagura after the boy was impaled by Funamushi while on a mission to the Land of Mist. Team 7 and Team 5 have been overseas on a mission with Kagura, and Boruto has come to see the boy as one of his best friends. So, as you can imagine, fans were eager to find out how Kagura was doing after being injured.

Turns out Kagura wasn’t faking the audience with her fatal injury. Boruto is able to defeat Funamushi with Karma after his friend is injured, but Sarada is unable to heal the boy. Kagura used her final moments to thank her friends and the swordsmen, including Hebiichigo, for their help. After promising the criminals freedom at the end of the mission, Kagura makes one final request to Boruto. The hero asks Boruto and his friends to protect the village, and once his wish is expressed, the boy lets himself die.

The death was certainly surprising because shonen series like naruto likes to fake deaths, but Kagura chose to avoid such bait and change. Now Boruto must mourn one of his closest friends, and Kagura’s death will no doubt become a source of motivation for Team 7 as a whole.
